Kyosho Pro - XRT race reports?
Hey guys
I've been trawling the net for any mention of a kyosho xrt at big race meetings but I've come up with nothing. Ive seen a Japanese nationals report from 1993 that shows the pro-X buggy being raced but it's like no one raced these trucks. Anyone have any old race reports mentioning the XRT?
Cheers
Mikey

I suppose the gear box was the same as the Pro-X buggy that didn't held up well except for racing in the stock class. In modified it was a disaster. Many Kyosho Team drivers swore about this. Drivers started to get back to the more reliable Ultima or changed brand totally. You probably won't find many reports because of it's short period of being used.
Cheers

As j0pp3 said, the car wasnt any good and saw a team mate throw his away, then called Associated directly for a drive. It looked stunning, that is until we get to the gearbox designs which from a designers point of view were a wet dream but in reality wasNt very good.

Oh bummer. Ive been collecting SST parts for years. I knew they were rare,, but never ran one. I dont even know what they were thinking in its design. A basic 3 gear tranny makes more sense.

When I first saw the transmission at the hobby show, it looked like a step backwards. It's basically a bad version of the LRM losi trans. The losi units were great if built correctly...especially when using a slipper.
The SST used bad materials and I think the pitch was too small for off road racing. The plastic diffs were easily melted if not built correctly. The sport versions used softer aluminum in the lower gears which deteriorated over time. They should have use a hardened top gear...instead of a soft steel.
The design of the car was really nice, but the trans looks better on the shelf rather than on the track:
Regards,
Roger

BTW, the gear ratio on the truck was different and it used larger diff rings.

Yeah I guess that all makes sense. what a shame, its such a rad looking truck!!! I don't know if its possible but it seems a simple solution to the problem might have been to throw a triumph or ultima tranny onto the thing

I wa sthinking the same thing, if you wanted to run one. I think the Triumph trans would work, I bet the Ultima one would be too wide for the suspension arms.

I remember at the 1993 worlds standing with a very famous company owner discussing the Kyosho car (it was relatively new at the time). We chuckled as he commented that they (not Kyosho) had learned that a tranny layout like that one wasn't any good years ago. He couldn't believe that Kyosho was releasing the car with that tranny (also implying that their (not Kyosho) design was being copied.)

Would have been the center of my collection but postal service and the big man in charge hate me and the kyosho pro xrt.. Someone somewhere has a free pro xrt or its sitting in a corner somewhere undiscovered.

Even though I love "that company", they couldnt chuckle too hard considering how long it took them to get a 3 gear tranny into their cars. The stealth was out in 89 at the worlds and it took them 3 years to catch up. I then of course agree that the sst seems a major step backwards at that point in time.Jay Dub wrote:I remember at the 1993 worlds standing with a very famous company owner discussing the Kyosho car (it was relatively new at the time). Re: Kyosho Pro - XRT race reports?
I am unfortunately dead serious about the pro xrt not showing up. Neither of our fault but it is MIA and after few months it has been classed as lost. Hope to get her somedayDelorean wrote:Are you serious bully? The xrt never arrived? Damn. That was a nice example that you'd bought
