Air Supply mills?!?

Post by Lonestar »

Hi guys

anyone has info to share about Air Supply (Erich: not the band... ). I have a couple in my boxes but I can't remember anything from them being imported to Europe bitd. They don't seem to be simply doing badge engineering, the endbells are molded with the brand name...

Info welcome :)

Thanks!

I have a few with various labels like "California Motor Works". The only thing I know is that they were early, I don't recall an Air Supply with a 91 stamp

I only know that the Air Supply motors are made in Japan, famous as the gold and silver label one (brush inside the motor, Mugen have motor OEM by Air Supply.)
I have the modified motor I keep nib.

Air Supply was a manufacturer of motor cans in Japan, not sure if they exist today. In the beginning just Japan based manufacurers were using the Air Supply cans for their motors, currently I just remember of Mugen motors which came with their 1/12 cars. I remember newer motors were sold by Team Atlas. There also was a series of cobalt motors like the black motor without sticker at the bottom row. This one was sold trough Mugen and Graupner.

Thanks guys - I have an "apparent brush" one which I bought in a Lazer ZX... I have to rebuild it and then I'll post pics. I am really clueless about these!

This one was fitted to a Hirobo Zerda bought off eBay in Australia...

It doesn't look to be in bad condition, although it needs a true, and a new set of brushes..

I have no idea of what wind or turns it is as I haven't disassembled it as yet, although I expect that it wont be a low wind given that it was connected to an old Futaba FP-MC1068 ESC...

It also does not have "Air supply" written on the end bell either, just a + and - symbol..

Let me know if you would like some more pics of it..

Seems to me the Trix motor is Yokomo based where the stock motor is using a "true" Air Supply can.

The Trix of mine came to me in a yokomo container also, I figured it was just how the last owner stored it but it may have been original to the motor

I know that a local builder in the midwest (Wimpy motors) used air supply teardowns at times. If I remember right, CAM motors used air supply teardowns quite a bit. CAM had fast stuff...
