Start of a T2 racer

Post by JK Racing »

So for my first T2...

Found this:

And after some donor parts from another pending project:

So questions:

For those whom have raced these in the past, base starting set up? Springs, pistons, oils, camber links?

Gotta love the T2.

What shocks are those?

Fronts are stock team shocks, rears in the picture are AE threaded V2 standard bore. I have the stock team rear shocks too, but didnt feel like pulling the white stuff off and putting the black parts on for the picture, so I dropped the modern shocks there for sizing up and thoughts of the future....

So what springs, pistons, oils? I may just start with the base FT T4 set up. It hasnt been wrong yet.

I would start with the factory manual set up. Should be easy to drive and you can change from there.
I was old school - when old school wasn't cool !

Not sure about the manual set up...

Green springs front, #3 piston, 25 wgt oil
Green springs rear, #2 piston, 25 wgt oil

FT T4 (which I used on a 10T a while back, worked a charm)

Silver springs front, #2 piston, 30 wgt oil
Green springs rear, #1 piston, 30 wgt oil

I dont have Green fronts (that I know of), I do have silver....so :)

Pretty sure 3/2 is the setup.

So I took the truck to the track with me to show some other vintage racers what will be coming at them soon :)

Buggy was acting up (shutting off randomly), so in the main, WTH...tossed it out there. Indoor clay track, wrong tires (losi red & panther soft, not clay compound). Spur in the pictures was missing teeth, so I literally wedged a B4 type spur on there. Not sure what to gear (been too long since I geared a brushed motor) so went with 21/87 - sounded about right from what I remember with a stock motor.

Wrong tires, so the truck pushed somewhat (didnt help with a stock weak servo trying to move those tires). Rear traction was pretty good, amazingly. So I was in 2nd most of the race, until I turned into a pipe with 2 laps to go and got passed. Finished about 5 feet behind 2nd place in 3rd. Absolutely amazed at how well the truck did with what little time & effort I put into it.

Now...B4 series top shaft & slipper set up, brushless and strong/fast servo are calling my name on this truck. Then back to the track to tear up the other vintage cars.

You don't really need to upgrade the top shaft when going brushless.

Doing it because I only have spur gears for that shaft. Ease of parts swaps :)
