Don't Know Were To Start

Post by n33no »

OK... I got this one off ebay a few weeks back. I think I pay to much for it. No... I know I pay to much for it. It was suppose to be some kind of truck conversion, RTR all you need is electronics. You know how it goes. Boy was I surprised. I mean each part on the car had something wrong with it. It literally had sheet metal screws holding it together. So I'm sitting here looking at this thing like what to do. Thinking to myself. Way did I buy it. :x Maybe I have the sickness. Or maybe it was the heat of the auction. Anyway I have to do something with it. To justify me buying it in the first place. So I turn to you guys and gal for a helping hand on what to do. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks for taken the time to read this. And let me vent.

Looks like my first used RC10, ProLine MT conversion and all. Any scraps of wood screwed to it?

Funny to look back now. You'll figure out what to do.

I think a lot of us have been where you are at some point.

If it were mine, I'd tear it down, give it a good scrubbing and rebuild it as a monster truck runner. I can see the potential.

tear it down, clean it up and stock your spare parts bins for the next project with anything that is useable.
I've done that with a couple cars over the years, beats buying 1 or 2 parts at a time.

I think I was looking at the an Ebay, glad I didn't win it now. You may be able to sell the tires/wheels for 8-10. Shocks could fetch 10 or so. And the 6 gear trans is good $10-15. Good luck.

Thank for all the help and support.

Now I'm in the proccess of tearing the buggy down. You know its bad when you have to pull out the flathead screwdriver to turn a few screws. Man... What to do. It looks like I'm gonna need another car to get this one back together. 8) Or maybe not. Hard to tell at this point. But one thing I do know it not going to be a MT conversion.

Pics and updates commin soon.

Easy-Off'd the shocks and went over them with some scotch-Brite pads. The chassis next. I think I'll freshen it up with some paint. Don't want to spend anymore than I have to. Sorry for the pics need a new cam.

Done with the chassis. Sanded down the bottom to get out the scrathes and what not. Then I sprayed it with Dupli-Color Filler Primer. After some more sanding I painted it gun-metal gray using Dupli-Color auto spray. Then top it off with their clear coat. Turned out pretty good.:D Next step will be all my white parts. I think I'm going to dye them black.

The chassis looks great. Is this a really labor intensive job sanding out the scratches? Or does the primer used fill in most of them? I have a couple of chassis that I would like to try this to.

If you want a A1 paint job then yes. And yeah the primer does fill in the small scratches. Just sand with some fine grit sandpaper between each full coat.

I can't understand why some people want to dye hard to find white parts black when nip black parts are still readily available? If the white parts are stained and don't come clean then thats a different story!

From what I can see from your pics, the chassis turned out really good!

I would clean up the white plastic before resorting to dye. You never know how they look until you give them a good cleaning!

If you are into the black look, just buy all the parts new. Won't be too costly.

True... I was only going to dye the parts that you couldn't buy anymore.
