9/11 Memorial

Post by scr8p »

Over the weekend we took a trip up to the 9/11 Memorial. Thought I'd share some pics.

North Fountain. Off to the far right you can see the transportation hub.

1 World Trade. It was really overcast when we got there in the morning, but cleared up by the time we were ready to leave.

Survivor Tree (If unaware of the story - https://www.911memorial.org/images-videos/video/survival-story-survivor-tree )

That's about all I took outside. Next round will be from inside the museum.

What you are looking at in these pics is the actual footprint of the North tower. You can actually walk around the entire inside perimeter and about half of the outside. The South tower was basically the same, but it looks like I forgot to take pics of it.

Inside the North tower footprint there were more artifacts but you are not allowed to take pics or video inside. There were a lot of people's personal items. Glasses, shoes, wallets, business cards, etc. Items from the fire fighters, ems, police (headsets, radios, firearms, holsters, helmets, fire truck tools, badges, etc). Areas are also broken down into WTC, Pentagon, And Shanksville where flight 93 went down. There is another destroyed fire truck and an ambulance, even pieces of the planes. Lots of videos and lots of pictures....... it really is something to see if you have the chance.

Powerful stuff. Unbelievable the stupid things some people will do, and the resilience of others to rise above that stupidity, and not be intimidated by it.

Very cool. I should get to NYC in the next year or 2 for work I'm sure, and I'm definitely going to put that on my to do list. It's hard to put yourself near that tragedy without seeing some of that. Watching it unfold on the news it still seems like some movie tragedy. Hard to believe it really happened. It still seems so pointless and senseless to me to kill so many innocent people. I just can't wrap my brain around it. Thanks for sharing.
