trackmaster market time

Post by Mr. ED »

Does anybody have some info on which trakmaster products hit the market at what time?

I'm mostly interested in info about the trackmaster belt-drive for the ultima.
If I ever get it (e-bay worries) I would like to find a spare diff allso: to build a custom 4WD!
Were these ever sold? Or did you have to buy the full kit allways?

sorry for bumping this up,
I have found out there never was an ultima version  and left the idea of going 4wd with this.

But I still really need to know if this rc10 version with belt is pre-90 or not: for another vintage project I can't tell more about just yet

Toybaron? I saw you just won one, maybe you have more info on it

I have one now but I never ran them back then. I always thought they really had way too much bind in them to be fast. The belts were stiff and the diffs never felt smooth enough for me. I always ran chain drives (TPS) or gear drives (MIP) in any car that wasn't a Stealth diff.

Sorry, I don't know too much about them. Other than I have one of their dirt oval chassis sitting on the shelf. :D

Hey tulsa,
Looks like I jumped to a conclusion too fast.
Do the L-shaped pieces stretch under the bulkhead and rear arm mount?
The side plates look taller too: to attach to the rearbulkhead at the top clearly.

I remember seeing the ads in RCCA, but my old mag's are stocked far over-sea.
Can no-one tell in which year their ads ran first; that 'd give me a clue if it is critical to find out the market time?
Or maybe someone has the leaflet with a print date on it?

no need to take it apart: I got the rc10 version and am not planning on putting new L-shaped parts on it. Had to build a custom chassis anyway and that's already drilled to work with the current parts.

I also drilled the chassis for a standard ultima gearbox but eall y hope I can leave the trackmaster on this project and race it in vintage class

my trackmaster tranny it says it fits [stock rc10, stock ultima, mid engine, sprint car, off-road] it is an '89  ygpm ed on the info
my exact trackmaster is the trackmaster turbo glide belt drive, which is the carbon fiber one.
:edit: looks very similar if not the same as Tulsa's trackmaster.
it says "1/1/89 pricelist" on the pamphlet that came with the instructions. i would scan the instructions but i dont have a scanner... my friend has one i can try it looks like it would scan good. maybe someone else will chime in before i do.

:edit:
the short part of the "L" with smaller holes bolts to the tranny sides. the longer sides of the "L" with the bigger holes mounts to the chassis, under the arm mounts with the notched parts of the L facing behind the diff outdrives.

please feel free to ask any questions and i will look at the instructions

peace,
gamma

It looks like they made 3 versions of the belt drive and 2 versions of the direct drive. When I say versions, I mean styles...they offered both aluminum and graphite versions. So there were a total of 10 different models.

I beleive the first transmission in each picture is the ultima version.

Below is what's reflected in my catalog:

I had the graphite version of the x caliber. After rebuilding the diff, it was pretty smooth for a regular ball diff, but not "stealth" smooth. The graphite versions had black anodized aluminum plate spacers, while the aluminum versions had the non-anodized plate spacers. I sold mine on ebay last year for about $50.

Thanks guys this info is most helpful.
The one I have is the the one on the right in the picture with 3 turbo-glides side by side.

Gamma says he found a mention : price list effective 1/1/89
If some one could scan that page, I can print it out and take that: so there's no discussion on whether it is legal in pre-90 vintage races.
