JK's 10M project

Post by JK Racing »

I specifically requested a 'raw' chassis...I like the look :) I dont feel bad when I run the heck out of it too :)

Didnt take long before it looked like this...

It sat for a while, until I stopped being lazy and finished up the turnbuckle braces & figured out a gear cover (I didnt order the shapeways parts)

I still need to get B5M rear wing mounts, paint and trim up the body too. I should be able to hit the track for some 'test hits' hopefully in a week or so.

Keeping with the 'custom' portion...who needs B5m wing mounts? Not this guy

Trimmed up a body too....Not bad looking, just need to sling some paint and pop the body mounts onto the car/body.

I was able to buzz up/down the street a touch. Need to look at the steering a touch, it isnt getting full lock to the right, I think I need to adjust the turnbuckle longer, it is leaning forward just a touch at straight ahead, must be running out of throw. Maybe a longer servo horn...something to look at in the next few days.

Even with the limited steering, the car is VERY responsive. Left/right low speed transitions are immediate. Rear grip feels really good.

Did you notice if it was jacking the inside rear tire?

I found with the stock arms with the altered weight balance I had to move the rear shocks in to the second outer hole to retain balance, this one change made the car absolutely awesome.

I also notice your rear arm mounts are in the short position making the rear shock angle steep. I never tried this on the track, only the long wheelbase.

I'll look over the rear to see if the rear arms are jacking up. I know there isnt much downtravel. Its funny, all my cars are in SWB, I dont think I have any in LWB, I should look into that :)

For mounting, I will be using the nose mount & the rear trans brace mount, like a normal RC10. I may trim down the AE mounts to make them shorter (rear definately), I want the body down tight like it is in the pics.

I use a shortened post on the rear and a standard post off the bellcrank.

You got some pretty blue bling on that thing :) but I see my pet peeve, the yin-yang wing clips. I went to the long single clip because I got tired of re-bending one for the symmetry. I'm not OCD...honest...LOL

Word to any other builders, use button head screws in the rear tower for the wing mount. There is not much room there at all.

Gonna work on masking it up and tossing some paint this weekend. Since I have so much red (electronics), I'm (gasp) thinking no purple in the paint this time (replacing with red).

Any advantages with the sideways steering over the 'standard'? I am set up standard now, but want to try to sideways.
