Please help me with this build!

Post by Gunnation »

Ok so a friend gave me his old A stamp car to get running. I would like to update it so that i can get parts that are more available. What i think i have as follows.

A stamp w/6 gear
Looks like Andys front a arms
Possibly stock rear a arms?
Nose piece i have no clue?
Shock towers i have no clue.
3800kv castle crea motor and speed control (may not be best but will have to work for now).

Ok so parts i have orderd:
Jconcepts ball crank steering and body w/wing, stealth trans and drill templet, Team KNK hardwear kit

After reading for hrs it looks like converting over to the b4 is the norm and if so im good with that but there is no build thread for dummies on here and seeing im new to this i need one. If b4 is the way to go what parts do i need to build the front end and the back end? I dont have shocks so i was thinking v2's for the b4 maybe and if so can i use any parts i have are do i need to change over all?

Check the thraed at the top of this section an the two top threads in the tech forum just down from here an you will have many ideas for how to do the B4 wheel conv.. Check team associated an download some manuals so you know what you are looking at. Doing the wheels the same as the re release worlds car is the easiest cheapest way to modern rubber so you may want to download that while your there mate.. good luck..

Since the RC10 Classic was released, you really could have kept it as-is and still had an ample parts supply of pretty much anything that car would need. No need to dump a lot of money into it.

Bottom Feeder,

You must have missed something, i neeeed help building this car that i just got. Whats here is whats here and i listed as best as i could. Original parts seem to be very hard to find and other seem to be very easy to find so i must not be understanding what your trying to say. Like i said im new to this and im from Ftw Tx, so im not the brightest buld in the house if you know what i mean. Thanks for your help.

bully and bottomfeeder are correct. Associated re-released both the classic rc10, which will be extremely similar to your A stamp; and the worlds car, which has some updated stuff.

with the classic re-release, you can get new tires that fit the original wheels, or you could update to the worlds wheels which are 2.2" for modern rubber. these are RC10B2-like that fit on 3/16" axles, and the fronts are B4 style, which use a longer axle. Both conversions are available.

either way, all the parts you need should be in stock at places like amain hobbies or tower hobbies to get the A stamp up and running.

OK, looks like you have a decent start. With absolutely no trans and the mention of going to a brushless system, going to a stealth is a good option. You will likely need to drill and tap another hole in the motor plate for the stealth.

the shock towers are stock, and not a problem to run. The front arms are andy's and are the same length as the 'team' arms which are the widest bolt on arms available.

looks like you need dogbones and nose tubes:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDSWN&P=7
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2560&P=7

and shocks:
you will need .56" front and 1.32" rear. Honestly, you will spend a decent coin getting all new parts, especially becuase you need shock kits, plus springs and retainers, ebay is littered with rc10 shock sets in reasonable condition and prices that are complete with springs, etc. That would be the route I would go. If you find a set that are .71", you can update the front shock tower to this:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEDYS&P=7 graphite, kinda fragile
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2529&P=7 fiberglass, a little tougher for general running.

now wheels and tires. are you going to just run the car to enjoy? buy re-release classic wheels and tires cheaply from ebay, much cheaper than tower, etc. I picked up a full set of tires for under 30 bucks. wheels are also cheap.

if you plan to race or otherwise use standard 2.2" rubber, you need two items/kits: the RC10 worlds wheels and kits to run:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDWJL&P=7
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDWJH&P=7

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXATLR&P=7

then the tires of your choice.

avid for bearings, at $1.00 each.

I do have the 6 gear that came with it and it need idler gears. Just going brushless i figured i would need the stealth. I also ordered the carbon drill plate template so i could drill the new holes for it.

You can use them with the hubs you have, but you will need (4) 3/16 x 3/8 flanged bearings. You will also need to use the b4 wheel spacer on the outside of the hub.

Those towers will work. Or you could go with AE pieces and save some money. That's really up to you.

Those new Worlds shocks will be too long for those Andy's front arms which only have the inner mount for the shorter .56 shocks. You'd be better off spending $5 for some new Worlds front arms instead of trying to make the shocks shorter with spacers or whatever.

The original shock towers you have are fine for the Worlds shocks. No need to replace them if they aren't broken. Save your money unless you really want the carbon bling.

The bottom of the rear bulkhead will probably need to be trimmed to fit modern hard-case Lipo batteries. The front battery cup will need to be moved forward unless you're planning on using shorty packs.

A Stealth is always a fine upgrade but don't assume it's necessary. A six-gear transmission will live behind a mild brushless motor as long as it's in good shape. If all the six-gear needs is idler gears and a rebuild, the re-released and supposedly improved idlers are available. Basically EVERYTHING for a gold pan RC10 is available again thanks to the Classic kit reissue.

The rear axle conversion kit would not be necessary if you bought those CVA shafts, but you would still need the rear hubs and 3/16 x 3/8 bearings. On the other hand, buy both and the only thing you'll have left over is the new 3/16 axles and the original dogbones.
