sledgehammer gearbox
I made a dumb rookie mistake before doing enough research and tried dying my sledgehammer gearbox with hot water, thus warping it. As I'm sure a lot of you know, the part Traxxas 1681 is near impossible to find, and I'd rather not buy an entire vehicle just when I need the gearbox. I was reading another thread and saw that for a bullet you can modify the vehicle to accept another gearbox. Has anyone done this for a sledge? I'm keeping my eye out for another gearbox but if there is a possibility of adapting another case in there (as this truck will mainly be a shelf queen) I'd be open to suggestions. Thanks!

Re: sledgehammer gearbox
can't say that I know of anyone doing just this. The way the sledgehammer is sandwiched between those plates and hanging off a pin going through it I don't think it will be an easy swap no matter how you look at it...
about the only things you could start out with would be the hawk and radicator or go as far back as the bullet but you're talking still alot of jimmyrigging. Sledgehammer basket cases show up on ebay from time to time so IMHO your best bet would be to buy a basket case for the parts or start searching the traxxas groups on facebook. I actually seen a few ebay auctions several weeks back for basket cases when I was trying to price some of my rollers.
Good luck and if you do find something that you can fab drop a line and help us keep the traxxas stuff alive here on the board.

Two and a half years ago he was. Also, a heads up... Since there is no buying selling or trading outside the designated area, this sort of post is best kept to PM.
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas
