So............. Where are all of the builds at?

Post by scr8p »

are you guys bored with r/c? not spending on hobbies? busy with other stuff? what's the deal? we used to have tons of on going build threads. but it seems to have dryed up around here lately. :?

in my case, i haven't worked since september because of an illness that no one can seem to find. and with no money coming in, i sold off probably 70-75% of my collection (so far) to pay bills. the builds i still have, it's hard to buy the stuff i need. so, they just sit, in hopes that i don't have to sell them too.

I'm with you and I need to get off my arse. I have some projects, but they're so stupid I don't bother posting them next to some of the beauties on here. I'm just sitting here waiting for other people to post something good. I have a B3 that I've been wanting to do something with, but I don't know any good B3 builds to work on. I'm working on a purpose built jump car, but my wife has kinda capped my budget for a while.

I've got two large wheeled 4wd Tamiyas waiting for me to tear down and make my own. One is a vintage Clod, loaded with all the old school aftermarket goodies, the other is a Juggernaut 2. But, they are both on the back, back burner for a while. I'm trying to finishing collecting parts and then building the baddest bmx bike I will ever own, and even more importantly I've been painting my butt off. When I get inspired to paint, everything else has to take a back seat for a bit. Maybe I'll get to those trucks this spring.

I'm finishing up the build up of my Siebenelch build. I haven't gotten the chassis anodized yet, but I got an ESC (Spehere Comp), motor (Novak 10.5), and the rest of the electrics in it now and blasted it around the basement enough to spin the unglued tires off the wheels. I can take some pics to start off another thread on it. I wanted to get the body painted before I put it out there, but I can get a head start with the guts first. I've been preoccupied lately with my sim racing league so the RC stuff hasn't been doing much. I have been SELLING some stuff though. I got a little over $100 for that MX4 basket case I got last summer for $40. Not too bad of a profit I guess....

I have several things going...slowly. Most of my stuff doesn't measure up to site standards though. Nothing ultra-rare, ultra-cool or ultra-expensive, just run of the mill RC cars. I do what I can with what I have for the most part. It takes a lot of time for me to gather all the parts for a thread-worthy build. My Pro-X is coming along slowly and I have several gold tubs to renovate. I also have enough parts to put together another runner quality Hotshot. I'll get going on something soon and post some pictures. On a full size car forum I belong to, project pictures are called "car-porn". I don't know who invented the term, but it fits. It's all about the car-porn!

interesting question ...

My last major build was the custom trailing arm design that I posted recently. I have a few other things "in the works" but all require more thought, research and $$$. I'm hoping to see more customs from others out there.

my funds are tight too. we got cut back a day at work and took a .50 cent pay cut along with it. I don't make that much to begin with so funds are very tight. Im now debating on selling my beloved horse and I really don't want to do that. I was going to race in the vintage race in montclair but I can't afford the damn motor and batteries i need to run in it. I have to buy some equipment for work and have been selling stuff to get the money for that.

was it really that bad? dude don't feel bad, the guys had to tell me I put shocks on wrong, tires in the wrong direction and when I posted my first picture of my RC10T they ripped it apart saying it matched the couch and called it the lochness monster! Im still posting my stuff. I just have almost finished my very first RC10 build and first body I ever painted with detail, I didn't do it perfectly and was afraid to post it due to being hammered but I did it and didn't get ripped apart for it. we all have to learn somehow. :D I like hearing from mr lex, bad hoopty, and scr8p cuz theyve ripped on me and Ive learned a lot from them.

I have a build going. It's a similar one to the "what was old is...still old" thread. I just haven't had the time to take any pictures. Well, I have had time, it's just been a low priority.

I did the Frog build with my kids over Christmas break... still trying to find time to paint it. I've got a couple projects on random stuff- trying to get my nephews some RCs cheaply. I have a couple 1/16 4wd buggies that are looking like contenders-- not very exciting stuff. I will be doing a Samurai rebuild soon, but as a runner so it won't be all NIP parts. Also I am planning on tearing down the Rad2 I got. Both of those I will try to get photos of along the way.
My work has been steady and my wife is in her final semester so we've had little time lately. I'm hoping to get some RC time this month after I sheetrock a room we gutted this past fall.
The preceding contained opinions, beliefs and thoughts that all may not agree with. No offense was intended at any point. Carry on.
