Lack of wheel choices
Lack of wheel choices
Is it just me or is there a real shortage of decent wheel choices in RC as a whole? I'm not generally a fan of the plain white or safety yellow utility wheels. In my opinion they lack any kind of character. It's like buying a new Mustang or Corvette and ordering it with hubcaps. It seems like someone could make a killing in the aftermarket making wheels to fit several different offsets and hubs similar to the automotive aftermarket. On the other hand tooling up for it might be cost prohibitive, I suppose. The RC market is dwarfed by the "real" car world.

Re: Lack of wheel choices
it depends on the tire size. there are lots of choices for 2.2 truck wheels and maxx wheels. lots of patterns, colors offsets, and widths available. sedans also have a decent selection of widths and styles. HPI has some nice ones
The racing oriented platforms tend to have more generic /plain wheels.

Yeah, I guess I shoud have been more specific. Off road, specifically two wheel drive I guess, is what I was referring to.

Re: Lack of wheel choices
I agree there are actually plenty designs available from a bunch of smaller brands with lots of variation (with 5 and 6 spoke designs as most poular).
Most of them are replacement parts though, not hop-ups for different brands cars.
That makes they come with as good as no info. At best you get told the tiresize which will fit, info on offset is allways lacking and most often the only info is which kit they are replacements for
The type of axle or hub they fit on can sometimes be found from exploded views or pictures but is usualy not mentioned either. 12mm hexes seems to be the most common, but that may be a bias in my findings as that's what I look for.
Front wheels are worse for 2wd: no info on the bearing size and never anyting on separating width between the bearings: which determines the axle length they will fit.

Re: Lack of wheel choices
you can use wheel dots like the oval guys do to dress up the flat wheels:
