My XX4 - Heavy Metal Truck
My XX4 - Heavy Metal Truck
Having seen JKs truck here and on other forums I've always had it in the back of my mind to get one. It was only recently that I added an xx4 search on ebay to my routine to hopefully track one down. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across this one, kept my eye on it and with no bidding on it I figured I'd take a shot. It was listed a little higher than I would have preferred, but came RTR without batteries which helped justify the bid. As the only bidder, I think I got a pretty good deal.
Upon opening the package when it arrived the first thing I noticed was an overwhelming stench of stale cigarette. As a non-smoker, I am amazed at how much cigarette smoke gets into everything. Everything was nicely packaged, and if I had a saddle pack I could easily had it running in minutes. With no intention of going the saddle pack route I did a quick adjustment of the electronics, scraping out the dry rotted foam on the right side of the chassis in the process and was tooling around the garage. The steering servo is pretty much shot so I swapped it out for another I had laying around and it is ready for a preliminary run at the track tonight.
Here it is as it sits now. It still stinks so once I get my fix running it tonight I plan to strip it down, check the bearings/belts etc and keep it as an occasional runner. It also came with the ugliest buggy body ever that appears to have been painted 3-4 times on the inside with many differnt types of paint. I have an idea to spruce it up a bit and may race is as a buggy to see how I like it compared to my Lazer.

Thanks guys. I saw JK Racings bodies and if this were going on the shelf, I'd be considering one of those. The Truck body is actually pretty serviceable for my purposes, the buggy body looks like poo. They are readily available but I am trying a budget custom "wrap" and see if I like it any better.

Re: My XX4 - Heavy Metal Truck
I watched that one also, I just need to hold off on spending for a while....EEK!
I have 2 full XX4s now and a freshly build X5^2. I ran the truck body on the X5 with a 13.5 motor at an indoor track...what a blast. Only other things on the track were Slashes & SC10s. They all marveled at how well my "little" COOR truck was, then they saw under the hood and knew why...

Re: My XX4 - Heavy Metal Truck
Rained out on Friday night so I didn't get a good run on it. Did some ripping around the street on Saturday AM as my son wanted to take it for a spin. He was nice enough to let me run his 18t
Too much motor for the cheapo speed control iin it and it's over geared a tooth or 2. Wet pavement and worn out tires were a bit of a handful, but otherwise it runs very nicely.
It needs some real dirt on it before I do a complete tear down.

Names, faces, telephone numbers, how to correct over steer on corner entry, I forget quickly. I never forget lap traffic
