you have alot of very nice builds dude!! very original. cant say i have seen one like this before.super nice man !! maybe a nice andy's long or short front bumper for it? its like the caddy/lincoln of ultima's . keep us posted.
.I really like how his cars looked. He clearly had much more freedom than most teamdrivers to use whatever he liked best. He was not affraid to try something that wasn't intended to go together
With a full 48DP gearset and balldiff inside it's still no stealth but 'crappy' isn't the word I'd use either.
I wonder if anyone ever took an A&L beltdrive in an ultima to the worlds, or maybe with a triumph beltdrive...
There is really nothing the matter with the Ultima trannies, especially when they had the 48dp gear sets. Allot of people think they are less efficient than others beacause they had 4 gears, but they still only had three total gear interfaces just like a stealth or MIP from that time period. Just think of the center layshaft like a really wide counter gear . I am currently working on a Ultima racer, with a home brewed slipper assembly and a removeable spur gear (48dp 1/12th scale spurs fit nicelly). When I am done, you will see the hotness...-Jeff
prp wrote:"Normally" , it's the normal gear in the box, and 48 DP on the gear out the box...
What do you define as normal: do you mean what JJ ran?
48DP internal gears were available from I think at least 3 different suppliers. But the only smaller than 32dp pitch that made it into kyoshos standard delivery was the spur with 0.6m main gear and 32dp back gear.
I make a confusion , for the internal , never seen.
The outer gear, on this one , it's the black 32 / 48 DP KYOSHO and I have from Thorp 64 DP and SRM ,
and SRM in 48DP but not complete...
What a unique Ultima. Its easy to see how they went from the Ultima to the Triumph with this car. I love seeing the evolutionary steps of progress with many of the older buggies.
Job very well done!
OK, looking at what crappy pics I have available to me, the worlds winning Ultima driven by J.Johnson is running a tomahawk body. The graphics, as far as I can tell, appear to be a mere silver and pink stripe angling forward from the bottom of the...

hello Erik,
The only picture I have is the one that's from the website (rear of the car). That's the car he used in the 89 off road nationals. The picture was published in the December 89 issue of RCCA.
Hello. I am new to the forum. My first time posting but collecting informations, here, for long time  I am building Joel Johnson’s ULTIMA 1987. Almost everything is already collected (bought) for this project. Since the chassis is something...
