Hey Erik. I have both the RB5 and B4. I will check to see if any of these slippers fit the Triumph.

I've just recently gotten a triumph too and at first sight prefer the triumph transmisson over the A&L. The main reason is the dual pad slipper setup, and secondary larger teethsize on the belt. Downpoints on the triumph transmisson are the non-standard spur and the more likely to bend alu motorplate.

For the slipper: I would like to use a newer spur and pads: like RB5 or B4... can either of you testify if that'd work and what I'd need beside the spur and pads?

Or if you could run without the slipper you could try this:

I ran a standard 48 pitch spur on mine for about 14 years (Triumph trans'd Outrage)...no problems whatsovever. I've always ran mine with the single belt vs. the dual. No adverse wear on the outdrives either. The adapter is pretty easy stuff to make.

I honestly think the belt absorbs a little more sudden impact vs. a gear set up, (so for me) I don't feel a slipper is that much of an advantage on a belt drive trans as long as the diff is set right.

Plus less weight = more horsepower..

I've thought of getting a set of traxxas friction pegs also, but the surface of the slipper plates is so small

Well, I tried getting an RB5 slipper on the Triumph tranny and that's not going to work. The Triumph really has a unique slipper hub assembly. The topshaft is thinner and is keyed for a grub screw. The RB5 is keyed for a shaft with flat spots on both sides and a larger diameter. If someone really had the time, they could machine a hub that would allow for newer slipper setups with normal spur gears. I didn't even try the B4 as that uses a shaft with a crosspin. It may be possible to get a B4 slipper on the A&L since they both use the crosspin slipper type hub. I haven't tried that.

There is an option for the Lazer ZXR series of cars (made by kyosho) called the "Hyper Clutch". I believe it will fit the Triumph as well (I think they use the same layshaft on the Triumph and ZXR's, someone let me know if I am wrong). They pop up on e-bay from time to time and I have seen them from the occasional European distributor. They are a more standard style clutch with the spur on the outside, and I believe they use standard spurs as well. -Jeff

Ok, I've make some good progress on assembly with the Ultima. In the process of finding parts for my Ultima, I also found some for my Turbo Optima Mid SE restoration. I now have a complete set of Platinum shocks for that car. They were missing the springs.

I'll post some pics later today. Basically, I have to figure out the suspension and and steering setup. I think I have a name for it: Outrageous Ultima. Then for my brother's outrage that I'm just cleaning up and replacing broken parts, I'll call it the Ultimate Outrage.

Looking forward to see what you do with your steering setup. I am considering Houge or Sassy bellcranks . I might hold off until i see yours. I also used Andy's long ( white ) arms, not 100% sold on that combo yet . I have no intentions of running mine.

Thanks for the trial for the triumph slipper Rich. I was thinking more along the line of keeping the triumphs slipper hubs and just replace the spur and pads with RB5 units. Offcourse I forgot to ask the ulitma RB5 racer I met at last sundays race but the next race is already in 2 weeks.

Did you get the outrage wing mounts also? that'd defintely be an improvement over the tube and wire mount of the turbo and pro editions

Yes, I got the wing mounts. Hopefully, there isn't a clearance problem as the A&L transmission is much taller than the stock one. I'm going to have to drill some new holes in the shock tower too.
