That body is awesome, but it's huge.
I'm still shopping for a Cox dune buggy body, I'm not yet ready to cut up my Cox Baja Bug.

oh come on, it's not like these things are "rare".Diggley wrote:littleVETTE wrote:diggley, by any chance did you piece this chassis together. just asking because of the what you've done here, and wondering who put work into this chassis.
That set up isn't one of mine.
I started this build because the two chassis' I had were both already cut up by a previous owner. They were just taking up space in my RC parts collection. Neither was good for anything else, & both were beyond the point of any kind restoration.
I wouldn't cut up any restorable classics, it's not my thing.

*hee, hee*
Good point.
I try not to take this stuff too seriously myself.
I'd hate to get beat up by the "Edinger" crowd...

The shocks are Kyosho Platinum's off my Turbo Ultima.
I've had them 20+ years and have never rebuilt them, so I'm not much help in that department. I'm sure there must be someone here that could help.
I think Mr. Ed is pretty knowledgable w/Kyosho, he may be a good source for info.

Re: I have an idea...
Still holding out for a salvagable Cox Dune buggy body.
The front track width is perfect.
The rear track width just doesn't cut it on the bug, even with the disco era fender flares... Bummer, 'cause it would be a lot easier to hide everything under the Bug body...but, it does have kind of a 70's cartoon look.
I think the buggy has a more scale appearance, and the open body would allow a little more tolerance in the wheelbase/track department..
I'll do the final wheelbase adjustment when I see how one fits. I'm expecting a lot of trimming for transmission clearance on the buggy body.

Re: I have an idea...
Rear suspension tweaks:
Solved the rear hub hinge pin problem. Now pins are captured, (no E-clips) axles line straight up with trans outdrives.

Re: I have an idea...
Ok, I really tried to get away from the Baja thing..no luck with finding an affordable Cox Dune Buggy body.
Looks like this project is evolving into something other than I originally intended.
Fortunately, there was just enough of the old Ultima chassis left to stretch the wheelbase. I still have to do a little more detail work on both chassis sections.
..Mocking up the pan for tie rod clearance, I will be setting up a direct-to-servo saver steering to save space. I'm not worried too much about bump steer on this one anyway. I still may trim the sides more.
I think I may have enough room to set up the battery lengthwise with the help of a left over RC10 battery tray.

Getting chassis layout...um, figured out...
Still no clean Cox Dune Buggy body found, project might still take yet another turn..
