markt311 wrote:nitro rustler front arms are a good replacement, the electric version is different and won't work. A&L steering should work, like you said probably cut out a new tie bar. Almost everything else is still available through http://www.buytraxxas.com or tower. some parts come up on ebay pretty often and usually go for cheap.
Good luck
so the nitro rustler arms dont seem the fit. the inner hinge pin that attaches to the bulkheads, seem to have a HUGE gap, i have to run almost a 1/4" in spacers on the inside... is that right? any better solutions? i have a white set but dont want to dye black, wanted a running set for this car.

Re: TRX-1 Build - In Progress....
the breakdown begins... bought a ton of NEW packages, still waiting for a few to come still.
Also plan to make a full carbon fiber chasiss here along with shock towers, drag link and upper deck.
i plan to run the bandit front steering assembly (so i can use hex front wheels)
also if anyone wants that single green trinity shock let me know before i throw it in the spare parts bin forever lol. anodizing looks mint.

Re: TRX-1 Build - In Progress....
Got my car assembled today with a new chassis.. Looking for 2 things in my wanted thread (rear shock tower and battery screw in pins). Built with all new parts.
The A&L steering is missing, dying it black tonight.
Im adding a custom cut upperdeck chassis plate made of g10 black matte fiberglass identical to the composite craft chassis kit (thanks kenooze). Does anyone want one of these before i place the order for them? if you do shoot me a PM. pricing is probably between $20-30? maybe more it is a large sheet with alot of scrap. Wheels i will probably use some chrome HPI 5 Stars similiar to my ultima. I used a Traxas Bandit Front Hex Setup in order to be able to share rims between the 2 cars. Hexes in the rear of course too.
My Motor plate has 2 stripped 3mm screws, i used some red thread lock but i doubt it will work.. I might try and take a steel flat punch and hammer the hole to maybe close it a little to thread it, does that make sense? anyone have any luck repairing stripped aluminum holes? i was going to try and get someone with a tig welder to weld the hole shut maybe and i can sand and redrill it, not sure if its worth that much effort.
If Not I am replacing the motor mount with a new one. im going to try and strip it and get it anodized black, does anyone do this here anymore?

Re: TRX-1 Build - In Progress....
Looks good Mike, is the chassis an aftermarket or is it Traxxas. i like the modernization of this car, it could be a good racer.

Re: TRX-1 Build - In Progress....
its new. i was going to try and make a all carbon fiber car, and can still get the towers/brace made from carbon fiber, but the chassis is more than i wanted to spend at the moment.
it was new, maybe a little high i dont know but rare

Re: TRX-1 Build - In Progress....
Mike did you get a new motor plate or get that one to work? I was thinking you might want to set a punch or something with a ball end in the stripped holes and give it a rap or two rather than use a flat punch to avoid marring the surrounding surface. Just a suggestion.

Re: TRX-1 Build - In Progress....
either that, or you can use a center punch, and punch it very close to the edge of the hole, probably 2 or three punches will close the hole up, and should give you some bite on the screws.
the other option, although ruins the originality, (though it's already polished, so....) is to countersink it, and run flathead screws the other way with a nut on the opposing side. that's probably how I would do it.

Very tasty! All those black parts give it a bit of a sinister look.
