Identifying Vintage Auto Glass

Post by MONSTER »

So, while cleaning out a shop on our property, I find 3 pieces of Auto Glass. Two are fairly non-discrip, probably back glass of some kind. The biggest looks to be a Front Windshield (but "could" be a rear glass from the saem era) from some early 60s car. Pretty similar to a 60 Bel Air I had when I was a kid, but not what it is.

I know some of you Guys restore Vintage Autos, so, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to figure out what this glass goes to??

As usual, any help is much appreciated

I'll see if I can get a decent pic tomorrow. I was thinking that there might be somewhere to "look through" some, to see if I could see it. Gotta be 60s. I think to curved to be late 60s, and not tall enough for late 50s.

If you say it looks like a Bel-Air windshield it could be a Impala front glass. Pictures and measurements will definitely help though.

CRAP!! Went all the way out there, and forot to measure. But upon closer inspection, it doesnt appear to be safety glass. So it must be a Rear Window.

Yeah its NOT a 60 Bel Air anything. Beyond that, anybodys guess, is as good as mine. But it even sounded like NON-Safety Glass when it bumped something, so its gotta be Rear Glass...doesnt it?

Pretty hard to tell from just one picture, but the style is reminiscent of the wraparound design rear window from an old Barracuda or Valiant or something. It's not exactly from a '65 or '66 Barracuda like the image, but you get the idea...maybe that might help jog someone's memory. Maybe an old Torino or Mustang?

their will be a small lable imbedded on it. that will help it narrow it down quite a bit. it looks to be a back window by the shape.

so far, my best guess would be a 58 olds 88 rear window. maybe a buick of the same year. i'm pretty sure they used the same roof.

give it a good cleaning and see if you can find any markings on it.

It's definitely a mid to late 50's car, rear glass. I would say a 55-57 chevy, but it's just too hard to get the right perspective in a picture.

almost all GM and even the ford rear glass back then had similar shapes. Like Scr8p said, clean it up really well, you'll probably find a small marking near the middle that might say GM or whatever....
