CAT 3000 ready for it's final race
CAT 3000 ready for it's final race
Since the CAT SX3 is about to hit the shops, i decided to run my CAT 3000 for it's final ever "proper" race.
I've not run this particular car for a long time as i also have a standard CAT3K that i've used in 4wd in the past, but even then not very often as i mainly run 2wd in events. So since i've been wanting to get a new 4wd for the new offroad season coming up, this has come off the shelf for it's final ever race.
I gave the diffs a service and set about deciding how to get lipos to fit the chassis as the standard cell slots wouldn't accommodate them. I had a sheet of 2mm carbon and after an hour of dremmeling came up with these.
Not exactly my finest work, but hey i don't have a steady enough hand to make straight lines
Electrics fitted nicely, although they were always a pain to get looking neat and tidy. I decided on a Losi 6.5 and my usual speed passion GT2.
I painted up my last new shell, it came out ok.. I'm not totally happy as this colour was apparently purple. It came out more blue, but i still quite like it.
Paul.

Purple & red, I like that color scheme! Those colors work great together and what's more, not many people use those together. In fact, I almost went with those colors with an upcoming Optima build...but changed my mind at the last minute.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid

Nice modernizing (?) job - I was wondering how the c3k runs against the newer cars, actually?

It didn't do as well as i'd hoped against the newer cars actuallyLonestar wrote:Nice modernizing (?) job - I was wondering how the c3k runs against the newer cars, actually?
I raced all weekend in various classes and 4wd off road was my worst result by far (4th in the B..) I just couldn't get it to work well all day, poor corner speed and i couldn't get enough steering (it was a very slippery surface) Even if i had been able to sort that i still wasn't able to be as aggressive as the Durangos and B44s.
Maybe it wasn't the cars fault though, perhaps i've just become too used to driving 2wd buggies and V12s

hehe - 2wd and 4wd driving on the same day is usually a recipe for screwing up both classes indeedCAT3K wrote:Thanks, i'm only retiring it because i want the CAT SX3 when it's released..top cat mike wrote:Why retire such a beautiful looking car? Nice work
