What transmitter batteries and charger?

Hi guys, i,m just new to the hobby, so looking for some advice on batteries for my Transmitter (Spektrum DX3) it takes 8. Should i go for Nimh? Or are there any better ones out now? Also any advice on picking a charger?

I used to use Nicad and then NiMh rechargeables in my transmitters. Had a field charger malfunction and melted down a nice futaba radio. Charged them every week as needed. Didn't want to charge my radio one night so I put some duracells in from the family dollar next to the LHS and they lasted all summer long without any charging. Never went back to rechargeables.

I've been reading lipo is longer lasting but personally can't justify the expense or maintenance of going back to a rechargeable battery. Just my experience and don't have any lipo wise so hope someone can shed some light for you on these.

I just use Duracells no problems here.

Not sure what impact they have on the environment when recycled, but I buy the Rayovac 50 packs at Wal-Mart for $14.95. Tough to beat at that price if you live near a Wal Mart. They last a long time too.

Cheers guys! just found some really cheap duracell batteries on amazon, 32 batteries for £9.78 delivered. Cant go wrong!1

I have lately been buying the Rayovac "hybrid" AA cells. They are advertized as coming pre-charged and having a shelf life close to alkaline, however are rechargable. I think a set of 8 is about $12 or so, less if you catch them on sale. Been having great results with them, they don't go dead if they sit a long time and they have been holding up capacity wise over a lot of charge cycles.
