Re: BROKEN COLLAR BONE
Get well soon! How long will it take to heal?
A tip:
Don't ever break your elbow - 'cause that will require surgery and implantation of metal bits to keep everything together. And they'll wait a year to remove the bits, so you'll have a painful elbow for 12 months or so.
Thankfully they removed the bits from mine two weeks ago. I had an bike accident involving a pizza guy on a scooter burning a red light at night last year - didn't actually hit him, he just appeared in front of me very suddenly and in attempting to avoid him I got launched off my bike...
On the other hand, it does give you a badass scar.

I've never broken anything on a fall but I remembered this article http://velonews.competitor.com/2011/07/news/training-center-what-cyclists-should-do-when-they-break-their-collarbone_186486 from this summer. The comments at the end of the article may be somewhat helpful as well. Hope it heals quickly.

Did a collar bone also. Sling it as long as you can and don't try to overdo it. It'll feel good but you can still make the healing time last longer by being a little overzealous. 6 weeks comes around still take it easy and get back into it a little at a time. Work it 70% for awhile and then up it a little week after week til it doesn't 'remind' you that you aren't bulletproof

. Thankfully I broke most of my bones while still in middle and high school. Still broke some bones later on and not looking forward to any more. Good luck and get some good hobby time in while you're incapacitated.

Re: BROKEN COLLAR BONE
Yep, I broke mine snow boarding. 4 pieces. No setting necessary. I was told that the healing (healing vs. not healing) rate was worse when it was pinned or wired compared to putting your body in a sling and brace. It sucked for a long time, and my Football pads didn't fit right after that. But now I have a funny lump sticking out of my chest as a conversation piece (it's an easy way to get the ladies to touch you btw). Tough it out and take Midol when necessary. -Jeff
Re: BROKEN COLLAR BONE
I broke my collar bone this last summer, motorcycle accident. Young girl made a illegal left turn and took my with her around the corner. I had the surgery, plate and 9 screws to put it back together. After the surgery about a week I could use it and was back to work 15 days after the accident.
I'm 37, surgery was the only way to fix it, my shoulder was out of place and had broken in 4+.
I know the plain and wish you well!

Re: BROKEN COLLAR BONE
Broke my left collar bone a few years ago on an ATV
. No surgery. Where the break occured, the bones basically slid past each other though not fully. Left a nice little bump that sticks up from the break area. No loss of any type of movement. Be careful not to catch your sling on anything that can undo any healing! I did that and set myself back a couple of weeks. I feel your pain man!

Re: BROKEN COLLAR BONE
Broke mine in 2. No surgery. Was in a 'wierd place' according to the dr. so he opted for some 'experimental slinging' and wrapping. I was 30 or so and broke 3 ribs with it. By this time I was realizing I wasn't smarter than a doctor and did as directed. Took about 8 weeks to get back to about 90%. Kinda a blur after that. Thing is I feel alot of my broken bones from years back and at times wished I wasn't so breakable. I feel the collar bone now and then when I get a little over ambitious but its kinda an ache I get all over
Good luck and speedy healing.
Todd

Incidentally, I did this part too...accounting for about 1/3 of my doctors billslongboardnj wrote: i did bmx ,skateboarding , dirtbiking, atving , all my life ...
