i've got the eyes of a fighter pilot but the back of a 70 year old. bulging discs in lower back, and i'm fat.

turning 37 in oct. here. i don't know i was one of the youngest here.

35 this year, also with bulging discs in the lumbar region. Also weigh more than I like ( nothing crazy, just more than I should) since quitting smoking 2 years ago compounded by the fact I can't run or cycle due to my back

Push through the pain Reg.... I know easier said than done. I have to when I am in the gym, as LH side muscles still aren't working 100%. Biggest thing for me is going to be pushing through the fear when back on the bike.

My back is screwed as well! Back in 92 I was hit off a motorcycle (XR250R) by a car and as I was falling was hit across my back by the same car again! Damaged 2 disks and one kidney! Kidney is ok but my disks are fubar! So I understand nasty sciatic nerve pain and still feel it often. This winter has been good so far (touch wood!) (I said wood Reg, not my wood! )! I'm fat and this only makes it worse! Jay is right, push past the pain! You have to strengthen your lower back to support the disks! The doctor said "never ride again" but I did not listen and went out in tears and did some trails. That night I was 10 times better than the day before! You just keep pushing even when you are in tears!

Anyone else realize how many times our dad said "that will catch up with you when your older" how much younger we would feel if we had listened

I actually feel pretty darn good, even considering my accident 5 months ago... yeah, I don't feel like did 10 years ago or 20 years ago, but I am bound and determined to not let it get the best of me.

As for the pain and suffernig some of us have, I too agree, push through it. I am not overweight by any means, but the beer belly was 18 pounds heavier the start of december.

It can be done, and all I did was cut back on the beers during week, and I eat breakfast everyday now, It gives me more energy to run the vehicles in the afternoon!
