Shipping to canada

Post by 328isjohn »

Maybe someone can help me understand what problems U.S. sellers face in shipping cars to Canada. I have seen quite a few RC10's on fleabay that I want to bid on , but they wont ship to Canada.

Bingo! I have asked a few sellers, and most answer that they "just ship to the US".

They do not even ship to HA or Alaska, to much work.

I sell golden age comic books part time and yes I have to fill out different paper work to ship to the U.S. but it is/was well worth it because I didnt want to miss out on a higher selling price

I'm in Canada too and I've faced the same problem with US sellers many times.

I usually ask them if they are willing to ship to Canada most of the time they accept.

You guys need a USA middleman. Contact your sellers first and see if they will send to a USA address if they will take your payment via paypal. I will offer my assistance in being the middleman. Once I get your package shipped with a tracking number (only way I'll do this) I will get you a postal invoice. You pay me postage and I will get your package on its way. I only ask of you that it doesn't cost me anything except a little time. By that I mean cover my paypal fees of postage so I can break even.

For you newer guys without access to the b/s/t area I have done this before for others here on the board but understand if you don't want to trust a total stranger. Get b/s/t access and read my feedback then make your decision. It only costs me a little time this way and you have to realize that there will be an extra shipping cost to you so figure this in when thinking about doing this.

As far as other's not shipping outside of their area there are many reasons. Some will fall under more than one but here are a few from my point of view:
- too lazy
- just dont' want to sell to you foreignors( :P )
- don't know about online shipping, postal pickups, etc.
- have 'heard' of bad things and don't want to take the chance of losing money
- been scammed before and no longer stick their neck out
- don't want to risk losing an item and then the money for it too
- don't want to listen to the buyer whine about how long it takes for an item to get there
- don't want to complicate their sale with having to do anything out of a simple click-n-ship transaction
- they don't care that they aren't getting more money for their item opening it up to a bigger market
- seller is stupid (believe me...you can't fix stupid)
- seller has no idea that the world is round and believe that packages will fall off at the edge of the world(kinda goes along with the above one)
- don't have the time to look further into foreign sales
- have never done it before and scared to try something different
- have always done it this way and not gonna change now
- have no clue that it upsets people that they don't ship to them
- barely trust ebay let alone sending an item they own with paypal as an insurance agent outside the country
- don't want to make friends outside their circle of trust
- against their religion to deal with outsiders(been told this!)

I could go on for at least another 20 or so but kinda think you might get the point by now.

If I need to open up a 'shop' in the business section to do this I'll check into it but don't think it would be needed for the few times this would need to be done but if you guys need someone drop me a pm and we'll discuss more...until then I am sorry for all the frustration you guys go thru.

I've found that if you are willing to pay the full cost of shipping in a USPS flat rate box, *most* times, they will oblige and ship to you.

Of course knowing nice folks in the U.S. definitely helps!

Same here, I'll ask before bidding and many times they accept.

Those who don't are just shooting themselves in the foot. Canada was much less affected by the recession than USA, and we've got the buying power right now. Refusing to sell to the people who have the money to spend = not so smart. ;)

As long as they don't ship with UPS, I'll buy to USA if the seller is willing to sell me

I'd be more than willing to ship outside of the U.S. if I could do everything from my computer, and be able to pay for the label through PayPal. I don't want to have to do anything at the post office but drop the package off at the counter and walk out the door. I'm not sure if this is possible.
