Looking for an AYK favor....
Looking for an AYK favor....
Hello,
I joined this forum because I have an AYK Buffalo and internet searches kept coming back to this forum. About 2 years ago I tried to repair a nitro duratrax truck for a friend and it was ready for pickup. I gave it to him when we were together at another friends place and the host saw it was an RC truck and says "I got an RC car in the basement, you can have it if you want" I said no thanks but he brought it out in its original box and put it in my hands. My wife rolled her eyes and it came home with me. It sat in my basement for 2 years until I was cleaning up recently and decided to pull it out and see what I had. AYK buffalo with working Futaba Magnum Junior radio. So, thus begins the long winding adventure to put this buggy back on the road. (The last RC car I had was a Hirobo 4WD Rally Peugeot that I cut grass all summer to save up for) After taking it apart and cleaning everything, I realized a problem: the front arms were very heavy, like 1/4 solid steel heavy. This car had suffered front end damage and somebody resolved this by making front swing arms that were as heavy as the whole chassis. I thought of drilling speed holes in them, but after closer inspection they are not even the same size SO:
If someone here has a Bobcat/Buffalo/Boxer could they please measure the original front arms with a mic and give me the dimensions so I can re-create the originals out of aluminum?
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Looking for an AYK favor....
Great story Dan, I'd like to help you out if thats ok. I am pretty sure I have a set of new in pack RACE PREP black anodised alloy front arms for this car ( I would need to check in my spares box though). I'd be happy to send them your way for NIX providing you post up some pics of your car and get a thread underway for us all to share in with you.
That sound fair?

Jason,
That is incredible! I joined just in the hopes of finding some info, and you offer parts!
I will take some pics today and post them for all to see.
Thank You,
Dan

Looks like you have the makings of a great car there - and with a body no less! Original bodies are quite rare, so treat that one nice! You can get nice reproduced ones from team bluegroove on ebay as well.
Welcome to the forum, and keep the pix coming!

This is a great story and one heck of Vintage AYK in the process of getting out of the box. Keep the progress pictures coming.

Re: Looking for an AYK favor....
I've been searching for those arms every where amongst what stuff I have with me. Moving states I couldn't bring every last thing so I have more boxes back in storage where I used to live.
I will keep searching for these arms for you.

Re: Looking for an AYK favor....
The screws came in. Socket head cap screws were available or wait for phillips head and pay more. So SHCS it is... I like the look of SHCS even though they are on the bottom of the chassis and stick out a bit more than phillips. Ah well, time to start the build!
