Anyone willing to do a huge favor for me? Needing a turnbuckle/cups

Post by Regulatori »

I purchased an RC10 Worlds car (re-release) a few years back, assembled it, but it was sitting as a rolling chassis for awhile.

The past few weeks I've been buying everything I need to get it on the road.

When installing the servo I noticed I didn't have a steering turnbuckle installed. I found the turnbuckle in my box but no ball cups.

So I contact Associated and told me me to order from Dubro.com.

I order the ball cups and after arriving I realize it's the wrong size.

At first I thought it was just a tight fit and ended up snapping the steering turnbuckle. So now I have to order a new 1.65" turnbuckle AND new ball cups.

My question...

-Where is a reliable online source for 1.65" Associated turnbuckles and the proper ball cups that can hopefully arrive in a reasonable amount of time? Hopefully from the same place so I don't keep having to pay ridiculous shipping charges for a $2 tiny part from two different suppliers.

-Any chance anyone here has a huge Associated toolbox full of misc parts and a 1.65" turnbuckle/ball cups they're willing to mail me? Trying not to be a begger but I would be so grateful. Every place I've checked says these parts will take 2 weeks to be shipped. I will happily mail you $10 for the parts/time. Just really wanting to get this car on the road.

This will be the first time I've driven an RC10 in almost 20 years so I'm really excited.

Thanks

Take a picture of what you need. You can also use threaded rod for the link to the servo as well. And you should still be able to find ballcups, and in that position you can use rpm ones.

I need this turnbuckle and ball cups.

I saw the link below with the ebay choices....but is there another option I could use that could potentially be ordered off Amazon/RC website?

It doesn't have to be Associated, just anything that can connect the steering to my servo arm.

Thank you. Will likely order if I can't find an alternative on Amazon/RC car store. I've had bad luck with recent Ebay parts purchases where 1 week shipping ends up being 2-3.

You should be able to find some 4-40 rod on amazon pretty easy. The rpm cups should be easy to find too.

Thanks.

Instead of starting a new thread, I'll ask another question here.

When assembling the Stealth transmission, I'm now noticing the inner "slipper hub" (#7485) on the spur gear is rubbing the aluminum motor plate. Soon as I slide the slipper hub onto the top shaft, the slipper hub pretty much rests tight against the aluminum motor plate. I've disassembled/reassembled the transmission multiple times now and everything looks fine inside.
I'm assuming the there should be a gap between the slipper hub and plate, right?

This Worlds kit is starting to drive me crazy. I just want to get the dang car on the road.

Uh oh, that's going to be a fun one. Might get in touch with Associated about that one. There was a bad batch of top shafts, which you could make work if there is no option, but people are asking $40 for those things on ebay as they are hard to come by now.

Another option is to use the b4 spacer and that will require drilling out the case to clear it, then the slipper backplate is setting against the spacer (which is better) instead of relying on the flat spots. Part number is 9602 and they seem to still be around

I really appreciate all the help I'm getting here. I've already contacted Associated but assume it's going to be an SOL type response.

Will likely do the B4 spacer. So I assume the drilling is just enlarging the top shaft hole from the outside so the spacer can fit between the case and the backplate?

Seems like a pretty easy fix. Ahhh...how much I've forgotten about Associated quality control. At least it's not an old school Schumacher kit...that's like ptsd.

You are enlarging the hole so the spacer can fit between the bearing and the hub. Just want to make sure it doesn’t rub is all. I use a tapered reamer or a stepped drill bit

I don't believe the b4 spacer is long enough to actually fix the problem. It fits inside the case on a b4 to shim the top shaft. Not to support the slipper hub. Be better off buying 3/16 i.d. tubing and cutting it the length you need.

If you purchased a complete re-re Worlds steering kit, it included a threaded rod instead of a turnbuckle. Just saying.

This would be a better idea as it can be tuned, but I’ve seen a few people recommend that the b4 spacer be used. Essentially you are flipping the position of the bearing but the thickness of the stack of components is the same of set side by side.

I don't know the correct nomenclature. I'm just going off the terms used in my Worlds manual.
