ABSOLUTELY NUTHIN, HUH! SAY IT AGAIN, HUH!

j/k, just singing along. the 6 gear can be made to work very well, but it does take some work.
cleaning/de burring the gears is a start. get them as smooth as can be.

personally i wouldn't run anything hotter then a 13.5 in one, but back in the day they put some pretty serious power through the 6 gear.

A part of RC history? Fun to run with black idler gears?

Other than that..... I got nothing! I may need to light up a dooby to quite understand your question though! HUH!

Sprint car/dirt oval bomber builds. Agi-Jammer/Hyperdrive on-road conversions.

If you're overly worried about stripping gears get yourself some steel idlers. Cyberfox has a nice set in a cheap parts lot he's selling in the B/S/T forums. Or if you've got a beat up set of outdrives chop those down into idlers.

I <3 my suped-up 6-gear.

thanks 4 the replys... all the 6 gears im runnin have full bearings(outdrives too) and black idler gears .. heres my issue i was thinking of putting faster motors in my runners, but i keep getting mix reviews on this trans ..1 side i see people running vxls and other brushless systems .. on the other side some people say they are junk and will blow up quick. i see some perform like they have a loose ball diff (slipping) or all power allways on one wheel more then other(in dirt say the left tire allways getting the power making car vere to right under full throttle acceleration)... i wanted to see if anyone has done alot of races/runs on there 6gear with a fast motor with good reliability. ive only ran racing stock motors in mine. are these transmissios good runners or shelfers?

i got some cars that are 6 gear and after alot of getting close to them with the stealth drill plate i decided to leave them be. some are gonna be dirt oval cars with steel idlers and lots of attention to detail when building or servicing the trans but they worked and won championships with the 6 gear back in the day so it was obviously enough to do the job...sure the stealth came along and made life 1000 times easier but there is something to be said about beating a new b4.1 with a 6 gear gold pan buggy
do you think its a bad twilight zone episode for team associated to be re producing a buggy from yesteryear that is capable of beating their latest and greatest production buggy?

I have one with chopped down outdrives (original 32 pitch) into idler gears, that is silky smooth and being saved for a 6 gear project! Not sure when I will get to build it though, maybe this coming winter?

Dremel or hacksaw off as much of the outdrive cup as you can then file off the rest. The large internal retaining ring is still used to keep the bearing in the metal idler, then the e-clip is used to keep the whole thing on the shaft.

After you get your idler sorted then you can shape the case, do a bearing elimination mod, and look for a Losi, Team Pit Stop, or Jammin Jay diff tube that lets you put a bearing in the spur gear. I've got a few JJ diff tubes if you're interested.

Do you use the entire JJ rebuild kit or just the diff tube w/bearing? I have everything except the lock rings.

The stock 6-gear diff rings will work on the tubes but obviously they won't lock...unless you glue them.

You could take a shot and try the d-rings from an RC10L4 P/N ASC8504. The old RC10L used the same size diff rings as the 6 gear and if Associated hasn't changed the size of the rings on the newer pan cars they could work. You'd only need one flat edge to lock the diff on the JJ tube.
