Servo suggestions for FlySky GT3B servos?

Post by Coelacanth »

Back when I bought my GT3B radio from HobbyPartz.com, I picked up an extra receiver and servo for some promo price like $7 each or something. The servo was a T-Pro MG996R 55g High-Torque Digital Servo, which is now out of stock--as are several others I might've been interested in.

http://www.hobbypartz.com/servo-mg996r.html

One similar unit on that site is the 50G EXI Digital Servo, the D123F: http://www.hobbypartz.com/50gexidised1.html

It has pretty much all the same specs except it's 6V instead of 4.8V. Should I stick with a 4.8V servo if I'm using it with the same transmitter? Can anybody recommend other cheap, good, metal gear, digital high-torque servo options, preferably at HobbyPartz (because they are one of the few places that will ship using USPS small orders at a reasonable shipping cost)?

Thank you.

I saw some favourable reviews about the Turnigy 1258 titanium gear servo so I ordered one and it shipped in about a week or so:

I paid under $40 delivered in Canada (order from the Hong Kong warehouse)... and no customs fees etc. We'll see how good it is, but it comes in a nice tin! :)

Forgive me if I'm pointing out the obvious, but isn't that EXI a mini servo?

I have been using this EXI http://www.hobbypartz.com/60gexidise.html from Hobby Partz in my sc10 without too many problems. I did break one after 12-14 months of racing. I put a second one in again with no problems so far.

Try Power HD.

Good price point. They are kind of "the best of the worst".

I think the EXI and D123F are hit and miss. Although the price and specs are good the quality is just not there compared to the Power HD servos.

Available from HobbyKing.

Similar problems with availability as HobbyPartz. Always on back order because they are so popular.

Thanks for the info, guys! Well, guess what? I was going through my toolbox (most of my parts are bagged up in Ziplock bags but some stuff is in the toolbox) and I spotted a new servo sitting there...turns out it's one I must've bought from HobbyPartz.com, a Tower Pro MG995...so it turns out that I won't need a servo after all. But the suggestions are always appreciated. :)

EDIT: Upon further research, there's probably a reason why these were being blown out so cheap...overshooting issues and not centering properly being the main issues. We'll see how it works when I have a receiver installed.

The TowerPro mg995 is famous for being a piece of crap. Let us know how it goes.

It's interesting, I don't know why I got *one* MG995...because when I put in that order for a FlySky GT3B and 2 servos/receivers, the other servo was the MG996R, which is installed in Barney and seems to work fine. I never noticed until the other day when I found the other servo that they're not the same. Now I'm kind of thinking HobbyPartz did a switcheroo when they might've been sold out of the MG996R. :x I know I wouldn't have put in an order for just one servo separately.

Traxxas servos are way overpriced everywhere except eBay.

Not as much as Traxxas servos.
Traxxas 2075 on eBay: $15-20
Traxxas 2075 on Tower Hobbies: $40+shipping

I just checked out that unit on www.servodatabase.com; it's a full 1.5 centimeters longer than the MG99x series. It also seems to only work at 6V. It also has plastic gears, I'm looking for something with metal gears.

Sorry if I confused you. I wasn't recommending it, although it's actually a decent servo. I was only explaining it's non-eBay-overpricedness.
