I just discovered Hobbypartz.com. Well not really, I have bought the LiPo discharge protectors there in the past.

All I can say is WOW! It is tough to do this vintage thing on a budget but this is really gonna help. I just picked up the FlySky radio w/ receiver, 3 extra receivers, a LiPo protector, a 5000 25c saddle pack and a 5000 50c stick pack for $135 shipped.

HOLY CRAP! The batteries are ROAR approved to boot! I will sell my Futaba and still end up with an extra $100 in my pocket.

Hard to beat the prices. I love that flysky radio. I have it for a few vehicles.

I've had my eye on that radio for a while now, and finally pulled the trigger today, too. I also purchased a spare receiver (both radio & receiver were on sale) and a high-torque servo (that happened to have a purple sticker, that should match Barney nicely).

A few weeks ago, I picked up that Tacon 11T 3200kV motor and four 4000mAh LiPos from them.

The best thing I can say about HobbyPartz.com is this: Unlike nearly ALL the other hobby e-tailers out there, HobbyPartz has VERY inexpensive shipping. Sure, they don't offer free shipping to Canada (they do to USA), but they don't rip us Canucks off by forcing us to pay Priority shipping rates. Tower Hobbies is just one example of a place that does this. I could order a set of wheels and a couple turnbuckle sets from Tower and be forced to pay $20 to $25 shipping. Guess what? I haven't bought a damn thing from Tower Hobbies. I doubt I ever will unless it's a big-buck purchase.

The 4 LiPos & motor I bought from HobbyPartz cost only $15 or so to ship, and the radio, receiver & servo I bought today cost only $9 to ship.

Hobbyking.com has the same stuff and more than hobbypartz and have reasonable shipping also. I use both because it seems that I one doesn't have something a lot of times the other will

I actually won't use Hobbyking much either, because they charged me about $30 to ship an airbrush and 3 LiPo batteries.

The problem is when a store or person refuses to ship economically and only wants to use Priority Post or something even faster. For the majority of small packages that aren't very heavy, the cheapest option by far is First Class Mail, but it seems very few sellers use that option, or are even aware of it. I think many shippers who refuse to ship economically claim they need the tracking info and for insurance, but for small items worth less than $100, for example, this is pointless. And I've already remarked on the forum here that the amount of info that's available on the USPS tracking site is practically useless too, and Priority certainly doesn't guarantee any faster shipping times. The last item I had shipped using Priority (based on seller's insistence, not my choice) actually took LONGER to ship than a plain-Jane bubble mailer.

I'll agree with you there. Priority mail doesn't seem to be worth much IMO. I don't care if it takes one more day if it saves me money

Holy CRAP!!!! I'm on that site now for the first time, wow at the prices. I'm glad you have experience with that site Coel, makes it more reassuring for me as a Canadian to buy from them.

I've ordered three times from them and always gotten my orders fast (under 2 weeks) and everything has been good.

I've got the Fly Sky radio (check the rctech.net thread if you want to mod it) two 5000 mah 7.4v lipos, AA Nimh batteries and a 1550 mah 7.4v battery for my RC18 and it all cost peanuts. Best part is that I didn't pay duty like I do when I order from Amain or Tower.

Highly recommended!

I may have to go that route just for the rx. I can't understand why my M8 and briefly used Spektrum( ) require that you buy $40-$50 receivers! It's just one of those r/c things that will never make sense to me. Kinda like $250 soldering irons.

How about Futaba? Receivers for my 3PM-X are 90 bucks! I have 9 cars for god sake! 9x90=$810.

Why would the radio need modding? I remember reading a bit about that...the radio seems very precise. The one thing that would matter is being able to change the amount of steering servo throw. The way the Optima steering is designed, you only need a very small range of motion with a steering servo. What are you guys' experiences with this radio in vintage cars?
