The vintage cars you've set down on a race track.

Raced 1st week of the new year. Was almost a Queen. Heard of a local track that just opened and couldn't resist. Before that I hadn't raced in 12 years. Was hard to remember and gather everything for the field box, or should I say totes. I had the buggy setup for just doing passes up and down the street. Changed the tires when I got there. 20 minutes before race time. Forgot shock oils. Front shocks only had like 35 weight in them. Didn't have a chance. Talk about bottoming out. Absolutely no launching off the jumps. Just kept nosediving a brand new nose plate into the ground. Running a Novak Super Rooster, old school HPI Uno 15 turn, and a 2800 20c 2 cell lipo. Talk about rusty. Me not the buggy. Wouldn't steer for anything. I put the big knobs on the front to grab, tightened up the slipper, and had to punch it around the tight corners to get it to turn. Was so depressing, I haven't touched it until just now.

I'm not afraid to throw anything down. Well was a little with the Kendrick cars. But just had to put them back in their place. The Kendrick/Lane cars hadn't been at the facility in 20 years....so just had to.



Ran these before heats started, so there were plenty of others out there too.

Car I built and used many of the vintage Kendrick products....yeah, it was put on the track too. Did pretty good until the kid I built it for drove it into the wall and bent the front end. lol


Then last summer, I decided to put this on the track against the Street Stock class. Wasn't able to race it, but during hot laps, she held her own. Put a GTB with stock 17.5, DODC pack and the required gearing. I didn't do anything to it. Tried to make a couple of adjustments and that's when I realized the shock caps were loose. So with air and half of the fluid missing, I beat on it. Some were pretty impressed.

One of the cars I "wrapped" that I was beating with my old 6 gear!



Built a dirt oval in Iraq and ran this against the soldier's offroad trucks. Cobra Nemesis vs Brushless Emaxx...didn't survive too good!

Here's my JrxPro, not exactly as I raced it, but close. I ended up using a setup very close to the one Brandon G posted here (http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=23199&start=15) at a local clay track. I was really happy with how my car handled compared to the newer buggies. It also survived several big tumbles. I ended up qualifying 2nd in the C-main at our weekly club race (mains went down to D). It was definitely the driver more than the car that kept me from making the B-main. I plan to keep racing it along with my SCT.

The JrxPro attracted a lot of attention in the pits. The older guys were excited to see one running and remembered racing them "back in the day". The younger guys kept saying, "I can't believe how old it is."

Most of the following are from all of the Vonats visits I've made to CT.

I continued running the RC10 locally in Nashville after the Vonats was over, simply because I enjoyed how well it drove. Took it down to the Georgia State Championships at Turtle Trax Raceway and finished 3rd in the 2wd A Main!

The only car I didn't like driving in this bunch was the YZ-10. Boy, it was all over the place.

I've never had one of my vintage cars touch a track but that's all going to change in Sept. 201 (ehem...2014) as I am determined to fulfill my long-time dream of racing at an official event and the Vonats are perfect!

I'm surprised to here this about the YZ-10. They were formidable over here back when they were released. Mine (modded with 91 arms and hubs) is a real weapon! Possibly one of my best and fastest vintage racer sporting OPEN class motors.

They suck with the jumps on today's tracks. I think AE shocks are the wrong way to go on the Yoks, Kyosho RB5 shocks would be a MUCH better alternative for those cars. Lots more choices with different shaft, eyelet, piston, and spring choices. AE shocks on those cars don't have enough travel.

Really need to pay attention to bump steer on those too.

Can't beat the efficiency of that drive train though .

Here's my 870c Dog Fighter. This car works killer on our dirt tracks in Australia. Not quite standard though.

As for jumping, I find that this car points the nose a little high but a quick tap of the brakes levels it out nicely. Besides, these cars weren't designed with the modern MX style tracks of today in mind. Still, a very fast and very capable vintage racer this one.

I FINALLY got to take these two out for a spin today. The 870c, I ran last week for about 30 seconds before it failed on me. It was jumping very poorly, but I changed the springs and oil to something stiffer and now it works great. The '94 YZ10 is simply amazing. I'm glad I spent a small fortune on it

Put a few laps in on the new carpet offroad track in town last night. My driving stinks so I let the track owner take it for spin. He was impressed with how well it did for a 20 year old car.
