FSR Bullet (Sport, just added Pro)

These are popping up every once in a while, not super vintage but I didn't see any threads on them so here ya go!

I didn't take pics as I went but I will say this-

The good:
Standard bearings- (10 BB's, 16 bushings- lacks (6) 3/16x5/16 and (10) 3/16x3/8)
Standard hardware
Steering Turnbuckles
Comes with universals front and rear
Comes with aluminum motor plate
Pivot ball front and rear suspension
"Active" rear body mount ala 1/8 on roaders
All arms and hubs are left/right compatible
Fits standard two bolt spurs
Diffs use 1/8 balls, 1/16 thrust, and appears to be pan car rings
Comes with proline tires and foams
Comes with diff lubes, shock oil, tools, pinion gear, and a cool setup gauge

The bad:
Instructions are "OK" at best. You have to scan each step carefully
Missing one 4-40x5/8 screw, no big deal
Tapered axles and wheel hubs ala old kyosho
Hard to access side belt tension and spur gear with brace installed

Did you recently snag this off ebay from the seller who must have been hoarding them and the YR-4M2's?? I bid on a few of them but never won any because the prices were all over the place from one auction to the next.

You're a bad man, now I am looking at them. I just don't know if I can handle another belt drive, been having a lot of problems with rot, missing teeth and weird sizes that I can't find.

I got this car in graphite version.....very good performance indeed.....

but the plastic parts are bean-curd.....

This was one of the many chassis' that my mate tried back in the mid-late 90s ~ went ok from what I can remember. I rather liked the chunky 1/8th IC style wishbones along with the active rear body mount that moves with the rear suspension to stop the shell from hitting the floor under compression

If you can pick one up cheap they are a fun kit to build. You can't just rush thru building it, as the instructions make you think about what your doing. Like a puzzle.

Since gomachv has dug up one of these cars I just have to chime in. I was fortunate enough to know the #1 team driver and the designer of this car. This was developed and tested here in Toronto Canada. James the person that designed this car had a love for the BMT. You can see its plagiarized elements though out this car.

Unfortunate this car had a number of problems design and materials wise. Here are some of the major problems:

- The screws that were used we of very low quality and the heads would snap off with normal assembly.

- The plastic that was used for the parts were far to brittle for normal use.

- All of the drive train and bulkheads could have been lowered at least 1/4".

- There was no hole in the chassis for motor cooling.

- Many of the fasteners that were used were the wrong type.

- The material for the universals was far too soft and would often snap off when you put on the wheels. The revised hardened version unfortunately was no better.

- You needed to grind a driver to make your wrench to take off the wheels.

- The rear suspension does not work out of the box and required modification to make it work

When all of the short comings came to light when the racers used the car. Well I will politely say that James was less that receptive to the criticism. He burned a number of bridges with racers and shop owners. All of the guys got rid of their cars and that was the death of FSR. James gave up and took on a regular job for what I heard.

I think that the overall design of the car was rather innovative and with some revision I think that this car can be competitive with today current equipment. I raced one of these cars for a number of years and it was one of the best handling cars that I have had. The general problem is that it is fragile and it was not up to the task of general Touring (hack) driving. Get a clean heat the car was fast. Play smash up derby and you always came up with the short end of the stick.

As a side note they also were in the process of developing a 1/8 on road car. Once again they were rushing the development. The did take it to the world championship that year but because it was untested and incomplete for the first 3 days of practice it obviously did not do well.

For anyone that wants to get one of these things going again I have a very large amount of these parts still. This includes the few revision parts that were released, prototype parts and the cars that were used by the #1 team driver.

If people are interested I can put up pictures of the team cars with the revision parts so that you can see what it changes were made to make this thing work.
