turnbuckles are adjustable, tie rods are not...... from the stand point of if you need to make a tierod shorter, you must make a full revolution of the ball cup. well that may be too much. turnbuckles offer much more accurate adjustments , and they can be made without removing anything from the car.

could you say rods hold the advantage of not losing their length since rotation of the rod doesnt change the length.

I've not seen a turnbuckle back out of the ends before but im guessing it does happen over time.

for the application of RC cars, the rods vs turnbuckles and changing length in use is a very unlikely scenario. And while you might be better served by being able to adjust the turnbuckle length an infinite length increment, using a tie rod limited to single turn adjustment will get you so close it doesn't matter for most mere mortals.

for a given material, a turnbuckle may be a little stronger, due to the fact that they are not completely threaded(the root of the thread is the weak point for either), but otherwise, rods are much cheaper.

the nicest part of the turnbuckle is that you don't need to remove a ball cup to adjust. that saves wear and tear on the ball cups, which are always a weak point in aggressive driving. more often that not, a racers chances of finishing a race depends on those ball cups.
