It's beyond me why people want to do this to their vintage rides. It's like giving viagra to a 100 year old...

Install modern overkill brushless gear into vintage rigs.

Makes me somewhat cringe...curiosity killed this cat despite many warnings...

Sorry for the rant, but I don't understand why some people want to wreck cars which are no longer manufactured and parts are becoming increasing scare for.]

Isn't there anything else better to do? I mean there are loads of video on Youtube that can answer those queries.

Oh well..each to their own.

kaz_z wrote:Optima went thru hell and back today, the LMT 4200 motor proved to be too fast for the track, the damage:
-bent shock tower
-bent motor guard
-shock rod end broken
-counter gear chip off
-broken shell got even more broken
The ultima final pinion was worn due to dirt got into the gearbox, but seems still can take much more abuse again.

Ill post more pics once I have the time to strip it for inspection :D

yup indeed its like giving a 100 yr old viagra, and if he dies,at least he died a happy man  rc is meant to be enjoyed, and I enjoy trying out just to see how it held up,and im passionate bout giving it a second life by restoring it. youtube has videos, but then again, its just like knowing the world through the tv without travelling abroad.why cringe? after all they are just toys.there are more important things in life than rc :D i already have shelfers, the tracks needs 1 badly.oh ,running it with brushless at the track did wow many who were never that interested in vintage rc ,cheers! :)

Was wondering just how well these old cars handle the power of brushless and lipo. Not counting the obvious busted suspension and shock towers,, but the drive train. Lots of stripped belts?

The belt and pulley, dog bones and drive cups held up nicely 8)
Did I mentioned I drop a mamba max pro 6900 into it? It was not drivable, wheelie on demand and rubbing the motor guard  4wd with motor at the back is really a thing of the past, before anyone start ranting, the were no damage because I stop after 1 pack

I'm glad that you did what you did, it goes to show you how tough the Optima drivetrain can be, even with modern brushless electronics. So, I think I should be safe with an 11T motor? When I posted I'd run that in my Barney car, one guy commented that I'd all but blow up the powertrain with that. 8)
