My Optima series collection
My Optima series collection
Hi guys, new to this forum, just wanna share some of my Kyosho collections A little info bout myself, I've always been interested in Vintage RC, mostly Tamiya, When I was 7, my dad bought a Tamiya Mitsubishi Pajero for my elder brother as Birthday gift. My bro would charge it up and let me have a go around our yard Sweet memories. Since then my dad bought a grasshopper, and a Hotshot for my bro's following birthdays. It was only when I was 12, My dad finally bought me a Falcon In the same year I bought a used Optima Pro from a friend, it was an eye opener for me as I've only been exposed to Tamiyas. Kyosho has such good built, the plastic seems so strong, and the chain, it was interesting to a 12 yr old. Unfortunately a yr later I had to sell it as the final pinion was totally worn and I couldn't find spare for it.A decision I regret till now. Anyway few yrs ago I wanted to relived my childhood memory and I started searching for an Optima chassis and found one,my interest for vintage kyosho grew, and the rest, like they say , is history Here's some of my little collections. Oh I'm mainly into Optima and Scorpion series. Here's some pics of my Optimas

That's a nice threesome you have there! I'm working on my own threesome...just about finished #2 and will begin #3 in a few weeks. Threesomes can be fun!
What wheels are those on the Salute, can you do a closeup pic of one?

Very nice collection!
I like the color coordination, especially on the Salute. Are those RB5/ZX5 shocks?

glad you guys like my threesomes actually i still have a runner optima in very used condition , i'll try take some pics tonight for a more exciting foursomes
the wheels on the salute are aftermarket, i think the brand is call AMK or something like that , will double check tonight. as for the shocks , they are actually 3racings which came with the salute when i bought it from tamiya club, it came all the way from Greece to Singapore , i replace the springs for the buggy's blue theme , the motor is a le mans 480s to match it .

Here's the pic of the Salute with the wheel design properly shown, the brand is Amark Racing, Taiwan made. You can google for them but I dont think they are making these buggy wheels anymore.

A family shot, foursomes
Optima with gold shocks and motor guard, my track runner, had to swap to modern wheels tires for better grip at the track.running on normal johnson 540 with lightweight gears like futaba mc330 esc,R114 micro receiver and 2200mah 2s lipo from Flightmax to keep the wear and tear down will be testing it with different Le Mans motors soon The youngest of the chain optima sibling is still in the restoring process.

Very nice! I think the original Optima body is my favorite of the bunch.

I agree with you, tsan--I just wish the original body would fit 8.4V batteries.
kaz_z: I love those wheels. I've never seen that style on a Kyosho before.

Re: My Optima series collection
Those wheels were also sold under the Imex name. There were several colors:
chrome
gold
blue
red
All of the wheels were chrome but were coated with a transparent color. With a little bit of time, you can remove the tint to show the chrome finish. I had a set on my optima also.

Thanks for the info , I think a red one would look nice on the turbo optima with boxart scheme.
Re: My Optima series collection
Today my 2 buddies and I had a great run at the track, we did many jumps along with the modern buggies and had many mis shapes pop out parts, bended shock towers and motor guard, lost screws, but our oldies survived the tortures, here's a group shot at the end of the day

Re: My Optima series collection
Great stuff indeed.
My first proper racer was a Turbo Optima. It was a bad experience for me though as i out gunned in every way by the blistering PB Mini Mustang 2 speed with a single belt drive train.
Have to say the Kyosho caught up with the MID though.
Love the Javelin though .
Well done.
