gearbox grease choice

Traxxas provides the silicon grease for the nylon gears but I was wondering what grease the delrin on aluminum likes and also how often should you open the gearbox to re grease? Should you fill the case with grease or just light on the gears or any at all?

I think most people do not grease tranny gears. I never have. The only possible exception would be some Tamiya models. Falcon, Avante etc.

Silicon grease for diff balls and black grease on thrust race.

Grease attracts dirt......so even though greasing may make the tranny quieter it may reduce longevity as the dirt gets in the gears and chews them up.

Thats my thinking on the subject anyway. Others may have different opinions though.....

If you are running plastic gears in a trans you don't need any oil or grease. If the trans has all metal gears, a tiny bit of light oil or grease is fine.

With the aluminum idler gear with a delrin top gear, still no need for any lube?
I've always lightly greased the gears and its always clean inside my gearbox... I dunno... maybe it seals dirt out better with the grease inside?

It's always been my understanding that no grease is needed unless there are two or more metal gears. So the delrin/aluminum/nylon combo you're using doesn't need any. I tend to put just a tiny bit of ball diff lube on though. It's gonna happen either way when you run the truck and the excess from the ball diff gets thrown around in the trans.
