My New Champ Ed. Runner

Post by spydur23 »

Been keeping busy lately with my TLR racers. But low and behold that vintage bug snuck up and bit me again! Picked up this B stamp CE off of the bay a couple weeks ago. My intentions are a 17.5 runner for the vintage class at MHOR here in Denver.

Here's all the white parts scrubbed and ready for a day in the sun with some 3% peroxide. Followed by a nice new pile of white!

I love getting new parts. Especially when they are coming from 3 different places and all show up on the same day.

Now the real building starts. I had all the suspension components assembled when my orders arrived. Also rebuilt the diff and added bearings to the tranny. Swapped out the old slipper with a b4 unit. I was gonna run the new AE rears and B4 fronts like the worlds car, but I decided on the JCon Hazards. Brand new 1/4" CVDs and GT wide axles to mount em on. New parts also include ReRe battery cup and bulkhead, rear hubs, and bellcranks. Freshened up the shocks with a rebuild kit. From the looks of it, the original owner never bothered to put shock oil in the first time around, so they were pretty much full of dirt.

Here she is in roller form. I'm glad I went with the little wheels, the look sweeeet! I prob will end up running 2.2 however, just because there's really no tire selection for the little ones. But for now I'm lovin the look. Next up is to get all the electronics installed, and paint up my new Detonator. The pink car is the other half of my "his and hers" build I'm working on. It's gonna be an old school pre-10t truck conversion for my wife and daughter to share. Gonna try and keep that one all period correct as far as parts go. It's off to a good start as well with the original flouro chassis, MIP 3 gear tranny, and Andy's arms. I'll be starting that thread soon as I gather some more pieces...

Looks nice! But no reason to use the wide front axles with those wheels.

Yeah I'm aware of that, like I said I originally was gonna run b4 fronts, and still am just because of tire selection.

Lookin' good!
But no reason to use the wide front axles with those wheels.
I run GT wide axles with JC Racing 5 spokes. I like the wide front track, makes them very stable.

Pretty close, although no skulls on mine, and it's much more metallic. I still have that one, though it wears the cobalt blue body these days.
