Offshore Fishing

Post by Seabass »

Anyone else fish offshore here? We have been tearing up the fish this summer. Here is a short video from yesterday, me piloting the boat while my daughter and friends worked on getting fish in the boat. I run a 26ft Mako with twin 175hp Suzukis.

Very nice. 8)

I don't go offshore as much since my uncle stopped bringing the boat up from Fla., but I do make one or two trips down a year, then shoot over to West End, Bahamas for a few days. Mostly deep drop for red snapper and some grouper or yellow tail fishing too, More than occasionally theres the unwanted barracudas and one or two small sharks.

Best was the tuna trips when the boat was up here.....don't have the back for that anymore though. :x

Damn Jake, looks like an awesome time. I bet a day out on that baby costs a penny or two. Great video quality even with the fish eye. 8) You ever charter?

Snapper, Grouper and Ling (Cobia) is also a favorite of ours. We are going to do some tuna and mahi mahi runs next year but from where I am it is a long run to the fishing grounds, about 250 miles round trip.

The boat does cost a good bit of money to operate but we don't mind. Our usual weekend fishing runs about $100 in fuel so it is definitely manageable Typically everyone on board shares the fuel, ice, food and drink costs.

Unfortunately I don't charter.

That king we caught in the video is on the smaller side of a tournament fish. We were super stoked to get it in the boat.

Thankfully I don't have to chip in for fuel. If I remember right the fuel up for our trip in August was just under 1200 gallons. :o

Looks like fun, I also loved the different camera angles and even under water footage. I was thinking quadcopter until it went under water. Was it some sort of selfie stick with a pivot?

Fishing around all those offshore rig pylons should bring some good Jewfish. One on my favourite! I wonder if the water is warm enough there for Jewfish?

Rod, yes that was a selfie stick that has a swivel on it so we can shove it under the water at a moments notice.

Do we have jewfish....yes sir. Infact there is a rig down here that holds a monster Warsaw that is a tackle buster. There are guys hooking up to him and trying to use the boat engines to coax him out of the rig pylons before he wraps you up. The bad thing about fishing these rigs is the grouper and snapper will run you right into the rig and wrap your line around the barnacles. These suckers have been hooked enough they know the drill to stay in the water.

It is pretty common to hook up to the fish then motor out away from the rig before he wraps your line up.

I hate fishing, but that looks like some serious fun. How far of the coast are you?
