Green is the new Black

So, I got another chunk of g-10, and it is really green. Dosent match anything else I have, so Im cutting complete matching sets from it.

I hadnt run the wrks 91 programs in a loong time either, so this was a perfect oportunity to check old designs, and try something different.

Welp,, this is the beginning of my own 91.

Im not a huge fan of it! but its growing on me. In low light the stuff looks like glow in the dark plastic. It dosent glow though. Only thing I can do is whack out a couple a sets and see what happens. Pretty sure Im going to wait for a different color for my own.

I got some from a place in Germany and it's almost identical to the original yoke colour.

Its difficult with the natural g-10. I got some too, but not available in every thickness. Im having a terrible time finding black g-10. I guess its called fr4? Wondering if its a manufacturing spec that results in green color, or is it random? Natural g10 is a crapps shoot to buy. It dosent photo well, looks whiter than it is, or greener. Sure does cut nice though after feeds and speeds are dialed in.

Why aren´t You using graphite like the original - too expensive?

I think finding the original graphite materiel will be the hardest to find especially with the correct sheen. I was talking to a a guy that make G10 sheets and the colour variation is mainly down to how much chemicals are used, if it's slightly more of one it changes the colour compleaty.

I like natural colour g10: The first home made chassis I ever saw and sent me on the scratchbuilding path was made of that stuff. But it is a pain when you can't cut all from the same plate or want to use different thicknesses and end up with different hues.

Carbon in the correct thickness and gloss finish is really not alot more cost wize than the g-10. Problem is availability. I figured to try white g-10 because Yokomo produced parts from it, but did not realize that it was so random in hue. Right now Ive got some very nice white g10 in 1/8 " thickness, and 1/16" thickness. This green stuff is 3/32 aprox 2.5mm.

Very nice match on those top decks! Even as close as they are,, there is still a slightly noticeable difference. I think though, that even the rc manufacturer would have to deal with slight variations in material. So to me that slight difference is a non issue.

I have seen stock Yok 94 parts in pure carbon gloss, and Ive got 1 that is cfc laminate with 1 layer of white fibers in between the carbon layers, fresh from Yokomo packaging. Some of the Yok parts have a thinner gloss layer, showing some waves in the carbon weave, and ever so slightly less glossy. Others are darker, almost charcoal tinted, but all seem to be more gloss than matte.

Have you guys tried to whiten the g-10 like the plastic parts? Hydrogen peroxide and sunlight?

Sounds like what eplastics did to me. I even asked specifically that all my sheets are close in color.

Looks like you get the same little scratches and rubs too. My g10 is coming in un protected,, and its got slight imperfections here and there.

Nice work on the opt mid parts! Im hoping to update my opt mid top decks to be stock oem looking. Your photos represent what my green parts look like in person. Very close match. Very green!

Yeah same with my stuff. It seems like for what they charge for shipping they could pack it with care. It's usually 1/4" undersized on at least one dimension and corners are stuffed cause of not being passed. I wish McMaster would get some decent looking black so I could use them
