RC10T runner(s)
RC10T runner(s)
This just arrived. Cost $51 off Ebay, seemed to be the best way to get a white stealth transmission I can use in a buggy. Now I just need to get an RPM 2.65 box for this as I doubt I can gear it to run any really fast motors with the 2.25.
Comes with a drilled chassis and crudely lightened motor plate, need to replace the turnbuckle ends as 4-40 screws don't even fit down the centres of them. For some reason they've put the rear arm mounts backwards and put toe in hub carriers to cancel it out. So it's got no toe in and pro-squat.
Shock tower is split in the middle have to make a new one and need to neaten up the custom trans brace.
Body is Bolink, never seen one before, I think it looks alright! Came with ballbearing steering, dunno who made that.
Also came with an old Reedy stock motor in pretty good condition and RPM gear cover.
I plan to give it a run at some big meets in truck mod, I imagine it'll handle somewhat like my T2 which is my favourite truck to drive.

Re: RC10T runner
Great proper race truck. I noticed (what's left of) the rear tires are the Pro-Line version of the AE 7820 tires.

Re: RC10T runner
Yeah thought those tyres only came with the AE markings on them as crappy kit tyres that noone actually races with! Can't imagine what kind of track they'd actually work on.
Bellcranks probably are composite craft, noticed mrlexan has a set on Ebay at the moment it looks the same I think..

Re: RC10T runner
Been doing a bit of work on this one..
Made a punch and die to flare out the lightening holes to give it a bit more stiffness. Was going to paint it black but had a can of this cyan blue paint on the shelf and noticed it matches the body pretty well so I painted it with that.
Also made a nose plate specifically for a 10T with RPM bumper, only has the forward mounting option, no bumper mount and didn't countersink the bulkhead screws.

Re: RC10T runner
very nice lil project you got going on there. I like the blue paint, it's going to look great with all the white nylon. My 10T and T2 handle pretty much the same in my opnion, but I'd definatly go with the RPM trans conversion. I did that recently with mine and WOW what a difference. I was fortunate enough to have a radar gun at the time thanks to matchbox and with the exact same motor, battery, and electronics the 10T increased its speed, plus the motor didn't get as hot. Good buy Bugle

Re: RC10T runner
I like the dimple die flares. Seems like a good way to "fix" a chassis that has had a hole drilled for servo saver access. That is one chassis mod that always looks like it was done with a wood cutting bit. Just match the other side with a hole and flare 'em. Plus, it does have the benefit of being functional, since it strengthens what it lightend. Lookin' good!!

Re: RC10T runner
Nope, PL offered them too. I can't substiante it, but I often wonder if PL made the tooling and manuf them for AE. I have one single of each from PL. I don't know the numbers off the top of my head (can get them later), there was an exact dup of the AE tire and another that had offset spikes. The offest spike tires had the middle mini-paddle splitting the distance between the next on the other half (hope that made sense).Bugle wrote:Yeah thought those tyres only came with the AE markings on them
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

Re: RC10T runner
I've started a collection of AE vs. PL branded tires too. I'm almost certain PL has always made Associated truck tires. Erich can probably find out for us. Some of the TQ series buggy tires were made by Yokomo.
Re: RC10T runner
Yeah rc chick been waiting for tower to get some stock of T3 bodies so i could get a couple of those at the same time as an RPM gearbox and various other bits. Been waiting a while for that to happen..
Re: RC10T runner
Also just received another $50 truck today not as good a deal as the 1st one i think, must be a later one as the suspension arms are much thicker all round, has 1/8" shock towers and the 6 gear mounting holes aren't countersunk.
Body is a half arsed attempt at a box art paint job and then excessively trimmed around the wheel arches and at the back.
Needs a clean up as the shocks leaked oil all over the suspension and will fill in the chassis scratches and paint it black. Just have to make a transmission brace and antenna holder already have battery cup.
Good for a runner anyway!

Re: RC10T runner
I noticed those Proline tyres aren't exactly the same as AE tyres, they rotated the moulds slightly to make 1 big paddle in the middle.

Re: RC10T runner
Almost finished reassembling the blue truck. Made a carbon fibre rear shock tower because I didn't have any white fibreglass, will probably make a cf front tower aswell sometime. Just have to make a transmission brace, rear body posts and sort out some steering linkages.
