A couple of parts that turned into a build/mess

I had an extra pair of Hot Trick style chassis support blanks laying around and an MIP SP1 trans that I had rebuilt, and somehow that turned into a complete build. Kind of road race or modified style with a cut down Scorcher body and a set of TRC pan car foams. I started this a long time ago, but progress has been pretty slow due to lack of time. It's finally coming together though.

Then I took a simple project and turned it into a mess... Started drafting and modeling parts-




And finally getting things mocked up-



So it's a Hot Trick style chassis with built in tabs for MIP trailing arms and FRP front arms. It will be dual mono shocked (with sway bars of course). In the rear a jack shaft passes through the bulkhead and the shock rides over the battery cup area. I'll have the printed parts soon and show you how it all goes together!

Sweet stuff and I see Mr Malar was also involved It reminds me a lot of my MIP SP-2 sand rail project. You might have a travel problem with the MIP rear mounts being flush with the chassis as they're supposed to work with an added plate topped with a spacer. That's why I had Jeff cut me 2 extra spacers to be placed under the swing arm mounts on my project: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=20271&start=45
Looks like you also made the rear arms longer that the original MIP ones?

Slowly making some progress with this. The printed parts are installed and the general mock up is pretty far along. Still need to test fit the shocks and bend my sway bars. I need to pick up the material for those next week, and a few other misc things. It's getting there though! Hopefully I can break it down soon to polish or ano the aluminum parts and then reassemble.

It's super freakin wide. I kind of like the way it looks, but was toying with the idea of printing a set of wheels to change the offset in the rear. I've printed this much stuff, why stop now I guess...

I've got the wing mocked up and will cut/bend it this weekend. It will be mounted with some tiny nylon hardware.


For the rear body mount I decided to make use of the wing tube holes and bend a small roll bar so the body could clip on like the original Sand Scorcher bodies did. I just bent a piece of stainless tubing and added a couple sections of shrink tubing at the top to snug it up in the clip.


The motor plate, Hyper Drive, etc still needs to be installed. It would be nice to find some new drive cups, those are pretty crusty and worn.

If you use more of a bbs style wheel (flat face), you could run the hub on the inside of the wheels to narrow it up, and trim off the inner 1/2" (or whatever it is) off the wheels.

I hadn't considered that. That is a good option! Printing wheels sounded cool, but them I have to find donuts, mount them, true them... It starts to sound like more trouble than it's worth. All my donuts are packed away now too (though I never seem to have the size I need).

I got the wing cut, bent, and test fit. It came out well. I love the little M2 nylon hardware.
