How to tighten wheels on Losi XXX CR

Hello everyone,

The nut that holds the rear wheel on my XXX CR is coming loose. I believe it is a 3/8 in nut. I tried to use a regular socket on it, but there is very little clearance between the nut and the recessed hole in the wheel where the nut goes, therefore there is not enough room to fit the socket around the nut and I cannot tighten it. Needle nose pliers barely get the job done and I think long term use will damage the nut and likely round off the edges. Any suggestions on how to tighten the nut? Perhaps there is a special tool I need?

you can try and find a thin wall socket to use, or you may also be able to find what is called a 'small pattern' nut, which will have a slightly smaller hex on it, giving you room to work with.

DO you know if the axle is #8 or #10 screw? I can't recall with losi axles.

Your problem is that you're probably using a "regular" socket. Those are probably thicker-walled than the finer, higher precision RC tools, as they're intended for automotive or general household use. I imagine if you bought a decent hex driver set in various sizes, they would work to remove just about any fasteners in a typical RC car.

If those nuts are like Associated nuts they would probably be 11/32". That would be common for a 10-32 threaded nut.
If you have 1/4" drive sockets they will have a much thinner wall thickness than if you have 3/8" drive sockets.

The wheels on your XXXcr must be different from stock Losi wheels because they should be smooth dished wheels. The Losi nuts are larger than Associated and other popular brands. If you can find the right wheels you shouldn't have a problem.
