Fingers crossed , breath held
Several years ago my daughter was assaulted , she has Asperger's syndrome a high functioning autistic spectrum disorder , and the trauma has left her housebound for years , anxiety has crippled her and at 17 she has had no education for all this time , a few months ago she started to want to re engage with the world and today , now , she is preparing for her first day back in college , my heart is in my mouth , my wife and I are just praying , quite literally that she will make it out the door , we can't put any pressure on her at all , no encouragement , nothing or she might have a panic attack , please pray for us .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Its so tough to be a parent, and not be able to shield and protect your kids from everything. Eventually we just have to let them figure out on their own, just how strong they really are. Here's to hoping everything goes well !!

having kids is super tough. no doubt. you want to always protect them no matter what.
It sounds like she has determined she wants the change, that should be a huge indicator that things will work out.

I have another friend who has a son with autism. It can be very tough! I will pray for you and your family.

Thank you all , she was silent and withdrawn on the way home but then came out to walk the dogs , animals always relax her , and she was able to talk about the day and its looking like she will be OK tomorrow .

Re: Fingers crossed , breath held
She went in fine this morning , once it becomes a routine its going to be fine , I have 4 kids , 3 have Aspergers , they like routine , hate chaos or spontaneity , as they get older they cope better with things that are unplanned but the assault really set her back and she developed severe agrophobia , its like a weight you never knew you were carrying being lifted seeing her begin to want to plan a future , aspergers is not a learning disability like dyslexia ( I have dyslexia ) ,they are all bright and my son has a diploma and is studying engineering ,mostly they have social and communication problems , its hard to explain but its an enormous relief to see this progress , every parent wants to see their children prosper and know that when we're gone they are going to be OK .
