Call me crazy but the older body looks narrower up front. If that's an early one with the wavy netting, maybe there were some more significant differences in the second version and that's what the repros are based on.

That's a good point Joe - so I won't call you crazy. :D
The middle one does look narrower in the front but that could be due to how it has been cut.
Anyway, I think that the vertical step just ahead of the rear body post rests against the back of the rear shock tower and locates the body on the chassis.
Chuck's comparison photo shows the overall length differences.
If the later bodies are uniformly shorter over their entire length, then that might not be so noticeable after the body has been mounted because some of the shortness (perhaps 25%) occurs at the back of the body.
Not sure if what I'm trying to say makes sense but maybe it does.

The Edinger body does have wavy netting and it is narrowed from being trimmed.
The other bodies are certainly of much thinner lexan as well.

I have to say, I think this will make me shy away from the penguin one. 1/2" short at the nose is hard to accept.

As promised, here are some dimensions for the Penguin Protech II.
I don't have an AE Protech II for comparison so I've include dimensions for the AE Protech and Viper - both of which were likely made sometime within the past 10 years.
What's interesting is that although the Penguin body is 1/8" shorter overall, it's actually a bit longer than the Protech and Viper from the rear shock tower to the nose.
Maybe someone has a genuine AE Protech II that they'd be willing to measure for us?

For reference, the available length at the chassis is 11 1/4".

Thanks for the nifty graphic depiction.
Thought I could add my finding on the Penguin Protech body.
I can't do a graphic like Doug can but I sure know how to steal and modify it. :D :D :D

Thanks Chuck. Just go ahead and edit the drawing, it's not copyrighted. :D
Hey, by the way, did you notice any dimples in the low spots on your Penguin Protech body shell?
Penguin's B2 and Protech II bodies are dimpled.
Otherwise, they seem fine.
