I have never owned a nitro car but during lockdown I have been fettling all kinds of stuff in my workshop and recently my son in law produced a car from his loft for me to ‘play’ with ...
it was a Land Ranger like this one ..
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324027965546
It has a Kyosho GS11X motor with a pull starter ..
that’s a new concept to me .. I had only ever started an OS 15 with an electric start on an aeroplane prop spinner.
Everything is fine - stripped it down and thoroughly cleaned it all - 27mhz radio works fine - engine seems clean and turned well ..
BUT .. the pull starter had no string in it ..
went to YouTube and learned how to restring and done that with high strength 1.5mm Black Kitchen Blind Cord and it pulls a treat but doesn’t want to recoil.
It works absolutely fine off the motor and recoils very well - but when on the backplate it has this non-recoil issue - I also took out the engine plug to reduce compression ...
I originally suspected that the cord knot was catching on the backplate screws so put a spacer washer in - I did that because if I pull the starter casing away from the backplate a tad it works better - and then I melted the knot as flat as I could - no real difference ..
I did, however manage to start it - first pull after being idle 15 years.. but recoil is still an issue..
There’s very little info anywhere on a GS11X .. and no spare pull starts I can see that will fit (If indeed it is a pull start issue
Any ideas ??
Perhaps even refer me to someone else or A N Other place??
thanks
