Cat identification help??

Post by haydn8052 »

Hi guys. I’m new to the forum, thanks for adding me.
Since the start of the first lockdown I’ve been restoring all my Tamiya models, but now I’m nearly finished I thought I would move onto the others.
Could someone help me to identify this. Model and year approx?
Also any links or places to source parts as I’m finding everything is as rare as hens teeth!!
I can post more pics if needed.
Thanks in advance.

Hen's teeth are a piece of piss comparitively. You've got a job on with that one... May be better to sell as spares when you find out what it is. I like a rescue challenge but WOW

I don't know much about Schumachers but condition-wise, that project looks not too bad at all, it's just cruddy. Assuming it's mostly complete, that would be a great candidate for a resto. I've restored WAY worse than that.

Coxbros1 that’s ace thank you. 👍
Coelacanth yeah me too... it doesn’t worry me at all. A drive shaft, 2 upper wishbones and a couple of brackets will make it a complete chassis. Just need to know which chassis I’m ordering it for as I want to keep it as original as possible.

I actually get a bit disappointed when I receive a used chassis that's in TOO good condition...like, "What's there for me to do here?" Dirt and funk cleans up easily. Broken and missing parts, stripped threads, CA glue, ancient double-sided tape residue...now THAT'S when I go "WOW!"

Update... right I got onto muzzoom models. Really helpful and a great list of stuff!! They identified it as a procat with a team tanaplan chassis. Need to download a manual and find out what I’m missing. Will definitely be ordering as many parts from these guys as possible. Extremely helpful. Thanks again coxbros1👍

I am not sure if this might just further muddy the waters but given the colour of the wheel rim (black) and the front gearbox/arms setup with the sway bar mounts it appears to resemble a Cat XLS...

...the only thing that is confusing me is the actual chassis, cat xls had that greeenish white glass fibre G10 chassis, does anyone know if this could be an XL?

Good thing is with the reissue there may be more parts available than you expect! Regardless, great car! Looking forward to following the build!
I come for the RC10's but stay for the Yokomo's :P

Current projects:
1993 WCS Faux-komo
1994 Yokomo Box-Art
RC10GT Restoration

I think for me cleaning the crap off them is like unwrapping a present , once its clean you know what you've got :D
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Toaster. Just downloaded a procat manual and all the part numbers and everything tallies. I’m 100% that’s what it is.
Gonna slowly source some parts as I have a couple of other projects to finish first. Including an rc10 b4 which I’ll post some pics up when done.
Really stuck on what colour(s) to do it in. And whether to polish that chassis and top brace???
