Apart from the boiling nylon parts to stress relieve them, you dyed them when new because the parts were still clean. Any dirt or oil on the surface would prevent the dye from being absorbed evenly, so if the parts were used you have to make sure they are spotlessly clean to get a perfect finish.

Makes sense, and thanks for the cleaning tip.

And Lobo, yes, I definitely need to get one to run. I have never spent any time around 1/12 stuff, and I am fascinated by how small this thing is. Next to the 10L, its tiny!

The burgundy situation has officially been handled. The car came with an extra set of black front end parts, so I didn't need to dye those. But seeing how well everything else came out, I will probably do them also.

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

This thing is ending up cleaner than I originally thought it would. I am happy with how it is sitting. I have taken it as far as I can for now, as I am waiting for a body, wheels / tires, and batteries (which are still open at this point). I will start a new thread with all its "glamour shots" when it is complete.

Oh, and I have lead on a RC12L3 that I am looking at in a couple of days. Problem is, from the pics, it may be cleaner than this one! :(

Did I mention how tiny this thing is when put next to 1/10 rigs? :D

That turned out really nice so far! Love the ol Novak electrics in there along with the East coast motor! Can't wait to see it finished. The old 12L series really bring back the memories!
