Wheels? - I am so confused

Post by haze5736 »

I've been reading posts about wheel options for weeks and the more I read the more confused I get.
I am looking to get my vintage RC10 back on the track as quick as possible with as little modification as possible so I can see where I stand before making a lot of modifications. I'm just looking to race for fun while I'm at the track with my kids while they race their modern truck and buggy.
In order to do this I need to get the wheels sorted out.
I found a post that sounded promising for a direct bolt on option.

"If you find the handling not exactly to your liking after a while, try switching to the standard offset Thunder Tiger Phoenix BX 2 rear rims and the Duratrax Evader front wheels with standard axles. Really made my car come alive from the center of the corner out."

This was posted by Charlie don't surf.

Can someone confirm that these links point to what I need?

Front: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCXT5&P=7

And confirm that these are in fact direct bolt on? And will they accept any 2.2" tire?
I know there are a lot of posts about wheels but I just couldn't make sense of it all.
Thanks,
Bill

Those are correct, both 2.2 as well! The only variable is the rear axle, those wheels use a 3/16 rear axle such as this (what I use including the B4 wheel spacer) http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXDM8&P=ML but you also need a 1/2 x 3/16 flanged bearing set and cvd bone to finish it. Or JC wheels from the UK are 100% drop in, 2.2 direct replacements

best deal out there. Will get you going with the least amount of money and work. Just need the wheels and tires that way. They hold up good too.

2nd vote on the JC wheels. When you order they are for the front and the back (it's not very clear).

Here is a set of the yellow on my old RC10. They also come in black.

Another vote here for JC Racing Wheels. I've gone through 3 sets already and they are excellent quality and a direct fit.

I ended up ordering the JC Racing wheels. For just under $20 it was cost effective and easy.
It was a bit confusing to order online. There was nothing that stated it came as a set of 4.
And there was not a picture illustrating the 4. And they listed out 2 separate part numbers.
So initially I thought I was going to be in it for double the price making it not very cost effective.
So I sent an email and they promptly replied and cleared it up for me.
And that was a day or two before Christmas.

You won't regret it! I've had two sets so far and will probably buy from them again

To see what the wheels look like in black check out my recent "RC10 World's A&L" thread. They are fairly good looking and cheap so perfect for a runner. They seem to offer some flex so should take some punishment. Although personally I'd have preferred tham a little heavier and even more rigid. Alloys are next on my shopping list...
