Turnbuckles

Post by Mwildmann »

I'm not sure what you all are using for turnbuckles but I was in the market for some for my Team Car rebuild. I'm far too cheap to buy anything titanium, nor am I a good enough driver to make use of any performance gains. I wanted something a tiny bit more flashy than the universal cut-to-length Dubro ones I could find. I ran across these spiffy stainless steel ones marketed for R/C airplanes. I did a little figuring/guessing and bought 2 pairs in the 1 5/16 inch length for front and rear bulkheads and 1 pair of the 1 1/2 inch for the front steering turnbuckles, for use with slightly longer than stock RPM standard length ball cups. They turned out pretty nice IMO.

I typically get the chrome Schumacher turnbuckles in whatever lengths I need.

Yes, they are M3 thread. M3 is slightly (very slight) larger than 4-40.

Dang, and here I thought I was about to contribute something helpful! When I invest in a basket case RC10T I'll be sure to give the Schumacher ones a shot.

Those stainless turnbuckles you used are new to me and look really nice.

My pleasure, and I agree. They have that sort-of darker hue like titanium....but only $3 a pair. I'll rock fake titanium every day of the week.

My only complaint is the slightly inconsistent machining...but I already got over it.

Want to thank you also. I was sorting turnbuckles last month and was putting tecnacraft in a pile when I had a really heavy one to go with them. Definitely tell the weight difference but damn they look very much alike. Now I know where to look for more to finish the stuff I found.

Sorting out a whole pile of titanium turnbuckles, eh? Not a bad problem to have! Really glad to have helped out. 👍

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe that you'll find that you have an interference problem between these ball cups. Move the steering as you compress the suspension.

You have RPM ball cups AND RCPS/Losi bellcranks. Either one is likely to cause problems by themselves, and it's almost guaranteed with both. I personally avoid using either on a buggy front end.

You can try moving the camber links to the outer holes of the shock tower, if you have enough adjustability.

Schumacher makes a low profile ball stud that can be used at the tower to provide a little more clearance.
