Rc10GT with RC10T6.4 Steering Blocks?

Post by Braydun »

Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing well! Just been researching how to get hex wheels on my two RC10GT’s and I have a few questions. I’ve seen all the posts about the T4 hex axle swap but can only find one auction on eBay for the parts I would need.

So I found this complete front end set up for the T6.4 on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/364485709150?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=N3rhOHRzQ_i&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=TMI11DGMSxy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
and am just wondering if the caster blocks will fit in my RPM GT A-arms? I know I will need the Team Associated #91560 bearings for the T6.4 steering blocks and I would like to use the Team Associated #7853 hex wheels for my application.

Just curious if anyone has tried this and if it will fit because the T6.4 A-arm clearance for the caster block looks much wider than the GT’s. I am a tool maker with access to any machine needed so I can alter them to fit if needed, even made my own T3 A-arms all by hand. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Welcome to the board.

There are a few different ways to get hex on to a T/T2/GT.

If you have machinating experience you can make these parts work. The blocks will need to be milled down to fit in the GT front arms and the hinge pins drilled out to accept the larger 1/8" arm pins. You may need to make modifications for the ball studs to fit.

Thank you sir, that is what I like to hear! I figured I would have to mill them down a bit, just wasn’t sure if everything would line up properly but I will order the parts now. Here is the GT I am working on as well as my T3 with the hand made arms

Nice cars. Did you see about just getting new wheels for the truck that use the existing axles?

Yes sir, I actually ordered those exact wheels you linked as well as associated’s truck 2.2 hex wheels so if this 6.4 front end conversion doesn’t work then I have a back up lol

Thank you sir, more work than it’s worth lol and I saw that hex kit just didn’t think the plastic was the best quality. Know of anyone that has tried these??

Very welcome ..."More work than it's worth"... been there, lol. As the hex's and wheels are both nylon I venture they'd both be comparable in strength, but to answer your question, not yet.

Hey guys, forgot to add this to the main post! The reason I’m doing this swap is because ever since I installed the RPM rear oversized bearing carriers I keep destroying wheels. I’m running shiny MIP CVD’s and 3/16 axles with real 1/2x3/16 bearings and I left the shim placement stock (thick shim on the inside and two thin shims on the outside).

How many shims do you guys have success with and where is what I’d like to know! Thanks again and all help is much appreciated

Are you using rear wheels meant for 3/16" axles? If you are and are still destroying them, you could add the little washer shim that the B4 & T4 use. It will allow you to lock the wheel in place to it when you tighten the rear axle nut. That should make it harder for the axle pin to destroy the rear wheel.

Yes sir I’ve got the right wheels and I robbed the axles and wheel spacers off of my B4 like you suggested! Worked like a charm, just had to order another set so the B4 isn’t out of commission lol

Figured I’d just ask here instead of making a new post, do you know if big bore shocks will fit on the GT? I’m looking at these Hot Racing shocks and my clearance is already a little tight with the RPM ball cups.

Thanks for all the info!

I've never switched to big bore shocks so personally I don't know.

Glad the B4 washers are working for you. I try to buy them whenever I see a reasonable price. I try to use them in all my builds with 3/16" rear axles.

I’ll do some researching but I think I’ll try and get them to work, can’t find many decent options for a good price!

I love the washers, they look awesome too. Bought the complete B4 bearing carriers with axles, spacers and CVD’s for $40 USD, couldn’t find much else.
