RC10 graphite chassis #2: odd front end

Post by Bottom Feeder »

I've ended up with two flat graphite plate chassis after years of eBay purchases but I don't know who makes either.

This one looks like a pretty basic design that was popular back then, but the issue is the front end: It's not cut with enough clearance for the front arms. Neither the classic narrow or newer wide arms fit correctly so I don't know what this was designed to use. I'm sure doing some surgery on it is possible but I'd rather not have to.

Yep Duratax. And yes, you need to hit the very edge of the chassis with a Dremel just behind the mount screws to clearance the chassis for the arms. The chassis is also quite wide in the first third of its length so most bodies don't really fit it well there. Andies pro arrow and renegade fit it well there. Or you can notch the body up a little or change the shape of the chassis. On mine I just made the body fit right on top of it.

Interesting. Thanks, gents!

Any idea why it was made this way if it needed clearancing like that right out of the box?

Here, you can see where my chassis has been clearanced. You probably don't need that much, I simply cleaned up what someone else had previously done.

Here, you can see where I notched the body to clear the chassis. It looks like a lot but it really isn't.

Once painted, you hardly notice the exposed chassis.
