That is exactly who I was thinking of, saw a set of those for sale a couple months ago, they were dead on, didn't know they weren't available in '86-'87 (filming), though.

Who would've made the originals?

I wonder if they would have used their own #6192 chrome knockoffs

The movie car was driving around on the knock offs though, aren't the AE ones just for looks?

No, people used them. Honestly I'd trust a nylon nut over a non locknut any day haha

Are the AE chrome nylon ones hard to find? Didn't know they made those.

Pretty hard to find, haven't seen one for sale in a long time. That said, the stock ones are super easy and those Molotov chrome pens would probably do an outstanding job

The 40th manual says not to use those for anything but display.

You'd really drive on those?

The movie car does look exactly like stock, just chrome, must be those AE ones.

In that case, I'll just get the wheels. Much thanks for helping sort that out!

We literally raced with them, it's really not a big deal haha. They work fine.

Stoked! I'll give it a go. Just told Dhawk to send me the wheels, and forget the knock offs. I have some chrome pens I'll try out on the stock knock offs. Thanks again!

Wow! Totally forgot about that vette. I remember the last time I watched that movie I alwyas thought it was a Bolink. It's really cool to find out what it really was and see it up close.

Dhawk, who will be making the wheels, said this new design could take 3 weeks to produce. June 14th I'll bug him again :D.

In the meantime, I'm trying to figure what foam Associated tires to use, for the wheels I'm ordering. The wheel dimensions are:
Front & Rear wheel diameter
1.7" = 1 11/16"

Front wheel width
0.75" = 3/4"

Rear Wheel width
1.35" = 1 11/32"

I converted the caliper measurements to the fractions I was seeing on some of the AE foam tire packages, for OD and ID.

Since these wheels are a copy of Mini-Mags, and were measured for Associated foam tires:
Image

Would something like this, that has no OD, or ID listed, be what I'm looking for?
Image

These are for black "kit asphalt".
Image

Can I assume these would fit the front wheels, at 1.7" x 0.75"?

Got the foam donuts on order, we'll see how that turns out.

Took me a few tries to get the Kydex front bumper shape right, still need to fit the body and finish cutting it. Score and snap with a sharp utility knife, like thicker lexan. Heat gun to bend it and set it in place.
Image

Need to get the M3 x 6mm metric screws that hold the motor in, KNK screw kit does not include those.
Image

Have to make myself do those turnbuckles. Shocks will be easier to get motivated for.

Any guesses as to how they got the Kydex to stick to the bottom of the chassis, without screws?
Image

Looking at the topside I still can't figure out how those wings are secured on there.
Image

My chassis is painted underneath, would need to strip the paint back to aluminum in those wing spots, in order to use epoxy, or something that would stick the Kydex permanently to aluminum. Need to figure that out still.

Might try 3M DS tape, perhaps that's how it's done. Still need to get rid of the paint under there. Will give it a go first.

I could be wrong but it looks like in the picture servo or double sided tape was used. I really like your build and attention to detail.
