Shapeways Reopening
Got curious about what was going on with Shapeways... As I expected in early July when they declared bankrupcy, the same people that ran Shapeways reopened the company under a different name (Manuevo) in the Netherlands where Shapeways started. Also, the Shapeways.com domain was renewed on 8-15-2024, a month after Shapeways declared bankrupcy and just days after Manuevo BV bought out Shapeways BV. Given that and the statement: " Soon, our self-serve option will be up and running again", it points to Shapeways.com coming back sooner rather than later. Which would be very cool.

Not surprised to see them back but I am surprised it happened so quickly.

Re: Shapeways Reopening
Maybe, maybe not. They bought all assets of Shapeways, which is likely mostly printing stuff... And when I read the first message you put on this thread, I see nothing indicating the marketplace will be back...Dangeruss wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 1:16 pmDoesn't appear... yetsilvertriple wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 12:42 pm The site is up, but the marketplace doesn't appear anymore...![]()
So wait and see, I guess...

Since Shapeways closure was announced their intentions were obvious and actions predictable. Like XLR8 noticed how quickly everything is happening... but that quick timetable reinforces the closure, buyout, and reopening were planned, making the accelerated timetable expected. The marketplace was their business, its return is inevitable.

Re: Shapeways Reopening
Well, if they reopen the marketplace, I hope it will be with more affordable prices... Because when comparing the prices before, there was no reason to order prints thru shapeways but the marketplace... And let's be clear, the marketplace was unlikely to make the printing business alive by itself...

Re: Shapeways Reopening
Anyone else get an email from Shapeways?... it's long winded but the takeaway is they're back open for creators to make and order models but the marketplace was "lost" during bankruptcy. Apparently they're building a new marketplace though so, should be interesting to see how it compares to the old one. Also interesting would be if anyone here had a Shapeways Shop before... have you tried their new "Get-A-Quote"? Found it better/worse than before? Skipping it entirely and waiting for the marketplace to return?
